THE AMBER EDGE - Key Persons

Amber Peterson

Job Titles:
  • Officer
  • Owner
  • Partner at Peterson
Amber's career as a police officer at the Duluth Police Department in Minnesota launched her depth in understanding the mental, physical, spiritual, and emotional toll working in Public Safety takes on staff. Over her time there, she personally struggled through a number of critical incidents and watched as her peers went through the same. Amber observed the connection between her own negative mindset during these challenging times and her inability to best serve her community, deeply connect with her peers and family, and practice the self-care she needed. She knew she was NOT the only one fighting to find this balance. Having realized this link, Amber left her job in policing to fulfill her true mission: to support her Public Safety peers in choosing to be their healthiest, most fulfilled selves despite the job. Since then, she has almost exclusively worked with and coached Public Safety employees from law enforcement, corrections, 911, and fire to define their core values, their development goals, and strategize how to find fulfillment in life (in AND out of work!). On an organizational level, Amber focuses closely on how organizational culture, thoughtful planning, and employee wellness intersect. Most often, clients note her energy and passion as she facilitates their small or large-scale planning and development workshops, or as she shares important messages in her interactive training sessions around wellness. Her ability to bring voice to the multitude of groups, and her calm, deliberate approach to strategy, has earned her a reputation as an attentive and dedicated professional focused on action. Amber has an MA in Human Development from St. Mary's University of MN, an MA in Criminology from the University of MN - Duluth, and an AA in Law Enforcement from Fond Du Lac Tribal and Community College. Her research on the connections between officer wellness and organizational culture was published in the International Society for Organizational Development and Change (ISODC) in 2019. Amber holds a certificate in Brain-Based Coaching with NeuroLeadership Institute and is a credentialed coach through the International Coaching Federation. Amber Peterson, Owner of The Amber Edge, has added Public Safety Mindset Coaching to deepen our service to the people within Public Safety! Follow her on LinkedIn for updates on this new offering.
