STURGE

Sturge was founded by Japanese immigrants in 1924 and became a "neighborhood" Japanese-speaking church attended primarily by Japanese nationals and Japanese-Americans living in the city of San Mateo. As the Japanese community dispersed to other cities in the greater San Mateo area, our church attracted other Asian-Americans and evolved into a more regional Asian-American church... Sturge Presbyterian Church is a mostly Asian-American church with approximately 52 members who are steadfast and devoted to their faith and to reaching out to bring that faith to others. Presently, the congregation consists primarily of female senior citizens. Sturge offers both Japanese and English worship services every Sunday, with our English worship service attended by 19 in person and five Zoom participants and our Japanese service attended by about 15 participants...
