Chakib Cortbaoui - Founder

Chakib Cortbaoui is a co-Founder and Partner at the Firm. As a former Minister of Justice and President of the Beirut Bar Association, he brings forth his vast experience as an influencer of corporate and commercial law. He has acquired an in-depth knowledge of the Lebanese legal system throughout his 50 years of experience, which have built his reputation as a reference in all matters related to corporate/commercial law, legislation drafting, as well as being a strong litigator before the Lebanese courts and arbitration panels. He has been leading major negotiations, involving multiple stakeholders which have led to successful closings and benefits to the firm's clients. Throughout his career, Chakib has actively participated in the enactment of Lebanese laws and regulations. He has been consulted by the Lebanese Petroleum Administration, the public entity which was formed to manage and control petroleum activities in Lebanon, to review and comment on the proposed Petroleum Register Decree which will keep track of all the data and activities concerning reconnaissance, petroleum rights, operators, area (block) coordinates, mortgaging assignment and forced sale activities involved in the oil and gas industry. He holds a Licence en Droit in French and Lebanese Laws from Saint Joseph University in Beirut. He has served as President of the Beirut Bar Association from 1995 to 1997, and as Minister of Justice from June 2011 until February 2014. Grace Fattal

Grace Fattal is a Senior Associate at the Firm. She advises clients and start-ups on a wide range of legal matters and cross-border transactions, most particularly in the fields of corporate and commercial, intellectual property, energy, telecommunications, privatization and public private partnership laws. She also handles litigation as well as arbitration cases and is an accredited mediator with the Lebanese Mediation Centre of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Beirut and Mount Lebanon. Grace has significant international experience having worked for over eleven years in law firms in Beirut, London and Paris. She delivered various lectures to start-ups on the legal framework for starting a business in Lebanon, spoke in a conference on mediation in franchise dispute and published an article on the renewable energy policy in Lebanon. She also co-authored an article about Fintech companies' regulations in Lebanon which was published in the Chambers and Partners Practice Guide of 2019. Lili Khairallah

Lili Khairallah is a Senior Associate at the Firm. Her practice is focused on public sector projects including public procurement, privatization and public private partnerships. She has advised governmental authorities on the procurement, licensing and development of infrastructure projects in the telecommunications, energy and other sectors including the analysis of the legal framework, the design of the contractual structure, the conduct of vendor due diligence and the drafting of tender documents and project contracts. Lili was also involved in the development and update of public policies and related institutional reforms. Rabih Monzer

Rabih Mounzer acts as Of Counsel at the Firm. His practice covers all aspects relating to administrative, civil, commercial and corporate, telecommunications, labor and real estate laws. Rabih has extensive litigation experience having represented clients before Lebanese courts and the State Council. He also has a focus on the field of privatization and public-private partnerships laws. Rabih was a Professor of civil comparative law at the Faculty of Law of La Sagesse University (2007-2016). He also acted as legal counsel at the Ministry of Displaced (2009-2011). He is currently heading the Private Law Department at the Faculty of Law of the Lebanese University (Section 1) where he has also been teaching civil, business and real estate laws since 2007. Rabih has published articles on international contracts, highlighting, among other things, his knowledge of Anglo-Saxon and Romano-Germanic laws. Roula el-Husseini Begdache

Specialized in private international law, Roula's practice covers all aspects related to this field with a focus on conflicts of laws and jurisdictions and special private international law (including personal status, successions, matrimonial property regimes as well as international trade law and arbitration) from a Lebanese private international law perspective as well as an in depth knowledge of French private international law. Alongside private international law, she is also specialized in torts and contracts. Roula has also developed a broad expertise in administrative and urban planning laws in Lebanon as well as the preservation of antiquities and archaeological sites and litigation regarding such matters; she also has a long practice of constitution of non-profit organizations under Lebanese Law and she also regularly advises in the field of Lebanese corporate law. Roula also focuses on the field of energy law, notably upstream oil and gas in the Arab countries.
