In the early days of her scientific career, Alba started as a molecular biologist, developing a solid comprehension of the foundations of genetics and biology and carrying out wet lab experiments, providing her with a unique view of the data-generation process. Further, her work has focused on understanding tumor development and aging, by combining a wide variety of omics data analysis approaches, both from a bulk and single-cell perspective. She is a committed bioinformatician who wants to help you solve complex scientific challenges and to contribute to the future of healthcare research by your side.
If you don't find her coding or checking plots on her computer, she will probably be reading some fantasy books, singing and dancing (perhaps not too well) or hiking with her loved ones.

Antti started the company with Professor Matti Nykter in 2011 while working towards his doctoral degree in computational cancer genomics and systems biology. Being a bioinformatics professional, he was seeing more and more biologists with data analysis issues, and was wondering whether academic collaboration was the optimal way to help the researchers in distress. Today his passion is to expedite all biological research globally by means of introducing high-throughput experiments and cutting-edge bioinformatics to academia and industry. Antti spends most of his days finding new ways to help our customers in the field and managing projects back in the office.

Before joining Genevia, Davide worked mainly in academia either as part of research groups or in data analysis core facilities. Both his studies and scientific activities have always been driven by a strong passion and curiosity for natural sciences including molecular biology, computer science and statistics. Approaching the study of complex systems through mathematical and computational methods has represented to him an excellent way of making a synthesis of his scientific interests.

Dimitris is a bioinformatics researcher with a background in computer science and strong data analysis expertise in biomedical sciences. He has been collaborating with molecular biology laboratories for the last 10 years in research projects involving a range of different types of next-generation sequencing data.
At the time of his PhD studies at BSRC "Alexander Fleming" in Greece, he developed data analysis algorithms to decipher the role of active transcription and chromatin dynamics in human cells during disease perturbations. Integration of ChIP-seq, RNA-seq, GRO-seq, CAGE-seq, ATAC-seq and other NGS-based assays enabled him to study the kinetics of RNA Polymerase II in cells recovering from genotoxic stress induction.
During his postdoc research, he has also acquired a deep specialization in conducting single-cell studies, by integrative analysis of multimodal scNGS data, including gene expression, chromatin accessibility and spatial transcriptomics assays. He has particular expertise in the detection of dynamic changes in cell subpopulations, driven by gene regulatory programs in disease and normal conditions.
His devotion to work in interdisciplinary environments and his passion in offering his scientific expertise to support biological research led him to the Genevia Technologies team.

Grigorios had one too many cell cultures before converting to a full-time computational biologist. With a solid background in wetlab biology and an extensive toolset in analysis of genomic and transcriptomic data, Grigorios is able to tailor computational analyses based on the experimental setup.
During the last 6 years Grigorios was working on disentangling the temporal interplay between chromatin and transcription factors in establishing cell fate commitment and differentiation in hematopoiesis. He carried out his PhD in Altius Institute in Seattle in collaboration with Aristotle University of Thesssaloniki in Greece where he graduated from. As part of the ENCODE project, he has expertise in profiling and interrogating DNA regulatory elements.
During his last year as a post-doc, he realized what really excites him is helping people to get the most of out of their genomic data by implementing a host of computational analysis tools. Joining GeneVia felt like a natural course of things.
Now you will most likely find him exploring the latest single-cell workflow or building custom visualization tools for genomic data. He claims to be a coffee aficionado, and in his free time he is either working on his latte art or playing his favorite bouzouki tunes.

He has a background in population genetics, having spent his PhD at the University of Sheffield using genomics data to investigate the contribution of mutation, selection and gene conversion to the genome evolution of great tits and fruit flies. He then left the UK to apply his skill set to Finnish Atlantic salmon populations at the University of Helsinki, looking for evidence of balancing selection in their genomes.

Joana was an academic before joining Genevia. Through collaborations with other academics she found out she was happier working on diverse scientific problems and providing the expertise in genomics to solve these. She loves anything related to epigenomics and gene regulation and her bread and butter is DNA methylation.
Her background is in molecular biology and for most of her career she spent as many hours in the lab as she did coding. She did her PhD in Psychiatric Epigenetics and was then awarded a UK Medical Research Council fellowship to work on (epi)genomics of brain development. She spent many hours in the lab troubleshooting nucleic acid extractions and sequencing libraries, which gives her unique insight into bioinformatics data resulting from such experiments. She has worked with human, mouse, rat, zebrafish and cell data.

I was looking for a partner to validate and improve an algorithm that aims to identify the optimal combination of cancer therapy for each patient by assessing clinical data. The collaboration with Genevia's team has gone without any challenges. Their response time is short, they are easy to communicate with and provide high-quality machine learning expertise.

professor Matti Nykter is the Chief Scientific Officer of Genevia Technologies, and leads the Laboratory of Computational Biology at the Institute of Biomedical Technology, University of Tampere, Finland. He is a computer science professional who turned early on to bioinformatics, allured by the possibilities of applying machine learning and signal processing approaches to biology. Together with Antti Ylipää, he founded Genevia Technologies in 2011 to disseminate all the wonderful bioinformatics know-how generated by his research group and the wider academic community. Matti oversees all the projects for our clients and makes sure the methods used are up to date and the scientific quality is always top-notch.
OUR BIOLOGY EXPERT, Reija had significant experience in molecular biology research and drug discovery before becoming a scientific database curator for EMBL - European Bioinformatics Institute in Cambridge, UK. Her work with biological databases made her realize that she could work much more efficiently with a fluent understanding of computers and programming. She decided to complete her training with a degree in bioinformatics, and today she is proficient in several wet lab techniques as well as computational biology. Besides her day-to-day work on our data analysis projects, whenever there is a tricky question about molecular biology, Reija will help the rest of the team to find the answer.

As a business development manager, she is part of the pre-sales team. Sofia enjoys finding out what kind of bioinformatics needs research groups and companies have. Thomas discovered bioinformatics during his bachelor's studies in biostatistics and molecular biology. He was captivated by the field and went on to pursue a master's degree in bioinformatics at the University of Paris-Saclay. After completing his studies, Thomas joined our company in 2019 as part of the R&D team, working on the EU's Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) program. Following his MSCA stint, he spent a year as a data analysis manager at a Paris-based precision medicine startup before rejoining our team in December 2023.
When not developing and maintaining our NGS data analysis pipelines, Thomas is likely to be deeply engaged in data science or enjoying jazz music.

Nothing makes Thomas happier than finding the best painkiller for a researcher whose overwhelming, unanalyzed data are manifesting as a nagging headache-or at least as a bottleneck in a research project. He is the link between our technology team and our customers, finding the best bioinformatician to help the customer, and keeping our team up-to-date on the most burning topics in academic and industrial research. As part of his PhD studies, Thomas played with huge hematological data sets, using and developing approaches to visualize and analyze gene expression and genomic data. Fascinated by every step of progress in the field of computational biology, he'll dive into speculative discussions on the future of life science research in which there is a computational solution to every problem. That said, he'll dive into a conversation on just about anything else, too, with just about anybody. There doesn't seem to be a language that Thomas can't speak at least a bit-he is your modern-day Babel fish.
