Mary-Katherine McMahon

Job Titles:
  • Registered Physiotherapist
Mary-Katherine earned her Master of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Toronto in 2014, and her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from McGill in 2011. She has been working full-time as a physiotherapist in private practice orthopedics for the last eight years, and works hard to continuously develop her clinical assessment and treatment skills, particularly with respect to manual therapy (i.e. «hands-on» treatment). She has developed a treatment approach which consists of manual therapy often coupled with extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT), which proves to be highly effective in treating a variety of musculoskeletal conditions. ESWT helps to increase blood flow to the injured or painful tissues, decreasing inflammation, and increasing the efficiency of healing. ESWT has an anesthetic effect post-treatment, thereby decreasing patient sensitivity, both in acute and chronic conditions. As such, an approach combining the therapeutic effects of ESWT and manual therapy allows the patient to experience, overall, a less painful and more rapid recovery. Mary-Katherine possesses her Level 1 and 2 certifications in Medical Yoga Therapy for registered health care professionals. Yoga is one of Mary-Katherine's personal passions, and the therapeutic effects of yoga, both short and long-term, are boundless. She often uses yoga poses and/or routines in her practice as an adjunct to the hands-on treatment she provides. Yoga not only increases range of motion, flexibility, balance, and strength, but it also increases one's body awareness, which is crucial to effective healing.
