Born and raised in Kailua, Hawaii, Malia Alexander joined MaxCorp in May 2020 as a Staff Attorney. She now serves as MaxCorp's Executive Director and Managing Attorney. Serving as both attorney and fiduciary, Malia focuses on researching, addressing and resolving many of the complicated legal issues that arise for MaxCorp's clients. She has appeared in numerous court proceedings before the Honorable Judge Mark. R. Browning in Probate Court (First Circuit Court) and works directly with counsel, settlors, beneficiaries, family members, financial institutions, and other parties in administering estates, trusts, conservatorships and guardianships for MaxCorp's clients. Before joining MaxCorp, Malia was a Staff Attorney in the Family Law Division of the Legal Aid Society of Hawaii in Honolulu, focusing primarily on domestic violence cases, including TROs, divorce and paternity issues, and guardianships and adoptions. Malia also served as a Lecturer in Law for the Family Law Clinic at the William S. Richardson School of Law. As a former AmeriCorps Advocate, a former Law Clerk to the Honorable Richard T. Bissen, Jr. of the Second Circuit Court of the State of Hawaii, and a former Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for the Department of the Prosecuting Attorney for the City and County of Honolulu, Malia is dedicated to promoting access to justice and ensuring that justice prevails. She currently volunteers as a court-appointed Guardian Ad Litem for Family Court cases on O'ahu. Malia graduated from the William S. Richardson School of Law and received her undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland University College in English. During law school, Malia competed with the National Trial Practice Team on the mainland and worked as a summer intern for the Sex Assault Division of the Department of the Prosecuting Attorney for the City and County of Honolulu and for the Department of the Attorney General for the State of Hawaii. She also served as a Judicial Intern for the Honorable Rom Trader at the Circuit Court of the First Circuit and the Honorable Mark R. Browning at the Ronald Y. T. Moon Judiciary Center in Kapolei. As a Board Member of the law school's Law for Youth Empowerment organization, Malia volunteered to teach civics classes to at-risk youth at the Kapolei Juvenile Detention Facility. When she's not working, Malia loves going on adventures and exploring new places with her two daughters and partner. She enjoys being physically active outdoors and trying new ‘ono grinds.
