STUDIO MARKO - Key Persons

Allison Markovich

Job Titles:
  • Architect
Originally from Delaware, Allison Markovich attended the University of Notre Dame. Attracting her to the architecture program was its emphasis on hand drawing and watercolor presentations, along with a full year of study in Rome, Italy. An additional curriculum in furniture building allowed her to explore design as it becomes a reality. This led to an expanded appreciation for craft and construction detailing. She graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Architecture and a Concentration in Furniture Design + Construction. Allison's professional career began in Chicago, with positions at HBRA Architects and Northworks Architects + Planners. In 2015, she moved to Asheville and subsequently worked at Carlton Edwards and Samsel Architects prior to launching Studio Marko. Throughout her career the primary focus has been in custom residential, with an emphasis on client collaboration and interior detailing. She has designed homes in a variety of contexts, from estates on Chicago's North Shore, to a farmhouse in rural Iowa, to retreats in the Blue Ridge mountains. Allison, Nick, and their two children enjoy the culture that their vibrant city has to offer, set within the wonderful natural terrain of Western North Carolina. Allison is a licensed Architect, NCARB certified, and a member of the American Institute of Architects.

Nick Markovich

Nick Markovich was born and raised near Chicago. Lego towers, couch cushion submarines, and his mother pointed him toward architecture. He attended the University of Notre Dame, where he met his wife Allison, spent a year in Rome, Italy, and graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture. While he did not graduate summa cum laude, he did win a campus-wide weightlifting competition (twice). Nick also holds an Associate Degree in Culinary Arts from Chicago's Kendall College and cooked for a few years at a Michelin-starred restaurant. Nick's career in architecture spans 15 years and includes experience in Chicago, New York, Brevard, and Asheville. While mainly working in custom residential design, he has experience with historic classical renovations, rural modern farmhouses, residential and commercial kitchen upgrades, a glass barn, sand dune golf cabin rentals, a retreat lodge, and new construction ‘forever homes' ranging from 1,500 to 10,000 square feet. Nick's path is guided by simple logic, integrity, and passion. He deeply values relationships with clients, collaborators, and contractors. Nick enjoys cooking for his family and friends, hiking and camping, playing and coaching soccer, and traveling to places rich in history, architecture, and cuisine.
