Sean Avent is an accomplished biologist and environmental scientist proficient in freshwater, estuarine, and marine environments. He received his BS degree in Oceanography with an emphasis in Biological Oceanography from the University of Washington in Seattle. Sean spent more than a decade as an oceanographic and marine biology academic researcher with the University of Washington, Woods Hole Oceanographic institution, and San Francisco State University Romberg Tiburon Center (now Ocean and Estuary Science Center) working on projects on both coasts of the US, but chiefly in the San Francisco Bay-Delta system and coastal California Pacific Ocean. As a consultant, Sean is skilled in environmental permitting and planning and is an accomplished biologist and environmental scientist proficient in freshwater, estuarine, marine and terrestrial environments. He is adept at working autonomously and within teams with diverse specialties to analyze potential project impacts to environmental resources, prepare biological reports, develop regulatory permit strategies and prepare permit applications, negotiate with agency staff, and prepare and follow through on compensatory mitigation plans. He has been responsible for managing multiple projects, and working to deliver comprehensive and efficient work products for clients in the private, public, and utility sectors. With over 20 years of experience working in regulatory biology, Sean has a broad perspective of the needs to move a project forward while balancing the need for environmental and regulatory compliance. Sean is well versed in California's environmental regulations and natural communities and specializes in preparing multi-agency permitting approaches and navigating projects within the California Coastal Zone and the San Francisco Bay fringe. Sean has worked on projects throughout the Bay Area and more broadly, throughout California. Sean has worked to both satisfy project environmental requirements while having the Client's best interests as a priority.
