I had been doing personal income taxes as a hobby for several years and was actually in the middle of a tax return when I went into labor with my oldest son! I always said that having a CPA business would be my retirement job after I was done climbing the corporate ladder. In 2020, I decided that life was too short to wait on pursuing those dreams and I decided to start taking steps to turn my retirement job into my day job. I was able to roll out my business and step away from my 15 year corporate career in the beginning of 2021 and have been growing since.
I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from Tiffin University and an MBA from The University of Findlay. I'm also a Certified Public Accountant licensed in the State of Ohio.
I have been married to my high school sweetheart, Josh, since 2006 and we have two boys who keep us busy with their sports. Outside of the office I enjoy traveling with and watching my boys play their sports and I am a workout and weightlifting junkie. I also am a firm believer in giving back and being involved. I hold an advisory position on the St. Aloysius Catholic Church Finance Council and I am the Treasurer for the Bowling Green Youth Hockey Association. I have a passion for helping and guiding people and am excited to assist you with your financial needs.
I had an accounting business, Charles Slater, CPA, in Bowling Green for about 25 years. I recently turned over my clients to Brandy Best and was planning to retire from tax work. However, the idea of me not working during tax season was unappealing to my wife so I went to Brandy and offered to help out on a part time basis. She graciously agreed to take me on.
In other interests, I played trombone in the Toledo Symphony Orchestra for about 40 years, retiring in 2019. I am currently the Secretary/Treasurer of the Toledo Federation of Musicians, a local union of the American Federation of Musicians. This allows me to stay connected with the Toledo musical community, and I get to march in the Labor Day parade!
My wife Carol and I have two adult children, Colin and Erin, who live in Seattle and Denver, respectively. We spend much of our time traveling to visit them, whether they like it or not!
I have done the bookkeeping, tax reporting and tax filing for my husband's businesses for fifteen years. I also worked for a financial investment company for seven years and was the Executive Assistant to the President/Owner of a construction company as well as for the President at a hospital of a large healthcare corporation. I hold an Associate Degree in Business Technology from Tiffin University.
I have been in finance off and on for almost 20 years. I have worked in banking, property management bookkeeping, and managing office and finances of a local municipality. I grew up in Colorado and my family of 5 now enjoys NW Ohio as our home. We are active in our church and spend our summers outdoors with our animals as much as possible.
