BURGAGE STUD
Updated 6 days ago
Burgage Stud is a boarding farm for broodmares on a short or long-term basis. It prepares and consigns stock for sale, particularly foals. The stud is on limestone land and the well-drained paddocks are sheltered and surrounded by mature Oak and Beech and interspersed with Lime and Horse Chesnut trees. Land management and soil health is a priority. The PH levels are monitored with soil and herbage samples taken every 2-3 years. The fields are aerated, and farmyard manure is spread each Autumn which allows humus back into the soil further encouraging vital earthworm activity. A resident and manageable flock of sheep graze paddocks after horses. There has been an active tree planting program at Burgage Stud since the early 1990's and whitethorn hedges have been created to provide shelter. The water supply at Burgage is from an ancient well fed by an underground stream.
