The Doris Duke Foundation (DDF) operates five national grantmaking programs as well as Duke Farms and Shangri La, two centers that serve the public directly... In the first phase of the African Health Initiative, DDF put out an open call for partnership proposals from 11 countries. After an extensive review process, we awarded grants to pilot projects in five countries: Ghana, Tanzania, Rwanda, Mozambique and Zambia. Drawing from lessons learned through Phase 1, DDF decided to create a second phase of AHI. During Phase 2, we required that an individual from the national government commit time to leading the program.
