Since its foundation in 2008 (based on an initiative from the institutions; the former Leibniz Research Alliance Biodiversity (LVB) was founded as the first Leibniz Research Alliance), Leibniz Biodiversity has been a pioneer in the development of global and regional models in the field of climate and land use and also offers comprehensive expertise in molecular biodiversity genomics in central facilities. Another unique feature are the natural science research museums, whose biological collections contain a total of more than 70 million collection items and thus offer a unique knowledge base for biodiversity research... The Leibniz Research Network Biodiversity (Leibniz Biodiversity) bundles and networks the expertise of 18 Leibniz institutions in the environmental, life, spatial, social, humanities and economic sciences.
