The project development was very special, in many aspects. The remote location of the construction site at an elevation of nearly 4000 meters required attention to logistics and project management. Cooperation with the local population was a very important asset for the implementation of the hydropower station, in order to overcome difficulties and special needs for the implementation. The cement had to be carried to the construction site by sherpas for over 200 kilometers - one sack of cement took one man month. The project started operation in 1987 and is still delivering renewable energy to the region around Namche Bazar in spite of the heavy earthquake in 2016.
