After studying for a science degree in London, I joined the London Ambulance Service as a paramedic and worked ‘on the road' for a number of years in central and north London. In parallel with this, I joined the Territorial Army in 1979 and in 1983, I was commissioned as a TA Officer in the Royal Corps of Transport. In 1990, my TA career culminated in a Short Service Volunteer Commission in the Regular Army during the 1st Gulf War when I served as the only female United Nations Officer in Cyprus... In 1990, I started retraining in HR and qualified in 1993 as a Graduate CIPD, gaining my Fellow status in 2007. I worked in a central London teaching hospital for 12 years rising from HR Assistant to Assistant Director and additionally undertook 2 senior interim roles in general management managing budgets in excess of £15m.
