BIRCHBARK - Key Persons

Daniel Campbell

I am an environmental scientist with a diverse background. I was a professor for a decade, with an inclination to tackling practical environmental research problems. I now run my own consulting company. I chose my company's name thinking of the many uses of birch bark, from a fire starter to containers to canoes, some of which my grandfather taught me. Paper birch is also one of the first tree species to eventually colonize after severe environmental degradation, as it has in Sudbury, Canada, where I live. To me, birch bark symbolizes natural solutions, versatility, practical outcomes and resilience.
