CodeBlack Academy is a 501(c)(3) organization (located in Ward 8, Washington, DC.) with one specific mission; increase the number of minority software engineers. Minorities are grossly underrepresented in this field due to the lack of exposure. By in large, minorities can't compete for software engineering opportunities because we lack the desired skill set to effectively perform the jobs that are currently available. Unless we change things, our community will continue to be overlooked for these high paying jobs. The Bureau of Labor Statics predicts that by year 2024 there will be approximately 1.2 million unfilled computer programming jobs.
