CYNON VALLEY COMBINED SERVICES MEMORIAL GARDEN

In May 2018 Branch member Phill Adkins and several of his comrades of A company 3rd Battalion Parachute Regiment attended a memorial service in Ross on Wye for one of their comrades Private Timothy Jenkins who was killed in action during the Falklands war in 1982 where the local community commissioned a Bench to commemorate 3 local servicemen from the area killed during the Falklands war. This got Phill thinking about Welsh Guardsman Lance Corporal Phillip Sweet of Aberdare who was killed in action aboard RFA Sir Galahad during the war on the 8th June 1982... On 3rd June 2018 Phill Adkins (as a member of the Royal Welsh Comrades Association) made a suggestion to the Branch about commissioning a memorial bench for L/Cpl Sweet and so the process started... The branch asked Phill Adkins to form a subcommittee to look into the project and this is where it all started.
