Matt Goodwin

Matt Goodwin commenced his career in the environmental field in 2006 and since has gained significant experience in the hazardous material, contaminated land, and remediation industry. He has a unique and well-rounded skill set which he can apply to almost any level of an Environmental project including site characterisation and assessment (soil and groundwater), occupational hygiene (asbestos management, safety, work place assessment and hazardous materials management), property risk assessments (compliance with building codes) bush regeneration and, weed control and management.  Matt's extensive experience early in his career as a contaminated land consultant and occupational hygienist developed his vast capabilities in site characterisation and assessment from a human health and ecological perspective, which has seamlessly transferred across into the remediation industry. Matt's skillset has developed from the ground up having initially worked as a field technician collecting samples and data to then undertaking detailed data interpretation and providing critical management advice for clients such as the Department of Defence, various NSW Government entities and Caltex. Matt brings this consultancy know-how to all of RARE's projects, which exemplifies our comprehensive in-house capabilities. Matt is a current Class A Licensed Asbestos Removal Supervisor under RARE's Class A asbestos license and a SafeWork NSW Licensed Asbestos Assessor.

Nat Stevens

Nat Stevens is a well-credentialed Senior Project Manager who has delivered a broad range of complex remediation projects, nationally. He maintains a wealth of experience in remediating contaminated land, through projects requiring environmental management and marine works. Nat has overseen complex projects that encompass the full nature of construction, spanning initial demolition, remediation, earthworks, services installation, roadworks, construction, landscaping and finishing works to final handover.

Natalia Gomez

Job Titles:

Natalia is a Sustainability and Environmental specialist and oversees corporate sustainability and environmental compliance at RARE. Natalia holds a Bachelor of Science (BoS) in Environmental Science and a Master in Sustainability & Climate Policy. She brings experience in environmental compliance, operational environmental management and corporate sustainability having worked across various sectors, including state significant infrastructure projects, construction, aviation and ports. Most recently she worked in environment and sustainability within local government in NSW before joining the RARE team.

Rhys Blackburn - Managing Director

Rhys Blackburn is an Environmental Engineer, who has maintained extensive experience within the contaminated land management space since 2001. Commencing his career as a contaminated land consultant, Rhys worked on numerous site investigations and remediation projects including gasworks sites, petrochemical infrastructure, defence, landfills and other industrial contamination projects. Eventually transitioning to remediation contracting, Rhys worked as a prominent project manager for one of the largest remediation contractors in Australia. Rhys was charged with the oversight and delivery of many asbestos remediation, containment cell construction, soil chemical immobilization, in-situ injection systems, spoil and waste management services. Some of his major projects included project management of Tarcutta Street Gasworks and Barangaroo, Block 4/5 (One Sydney Harbour) Perimeter Retentions System environmental management. Rhys founded RARE Environmental in 2017. Rhys' initial projects included environmental compliance roles on infrastructure projects, including remediation delivery. Rhys managed lead environmental compliance advice on Moorebank Intermodal - (Demolition and Remediation Stage) and Port Kembla Gas Terminal. Rhys is focused on RARE Environmental' s capability and delivery growth in both the remediation contracting and compliance spacesc

Richard Carran

Richard Carran's environmental experience spans public and private sectors, both in Australia and internationally. Richard graduated with a Bachelor of Science and completed a Masters in Sustainable Energy Engineering at the University of Nottingham, UK. He has been involved in a wide range of projects including, hazardous waste management, landfill leachate containment, and the design and construction of water treatment plants. Richard has also managed desktop and bench scale research projects, with a particular focus on emerging contaminants including PFAS (per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances). Richard has thorough knowledge in inorganic nanomaterials, with particular interest in materials for solar energy conversion.

Rob Dwyer

Rob is an experienced Environmental Scientist and Project Manager at RARE and offers experience across construction, chemical and contaminated land sites. Rob has a Bachelor of Science (BoS) and is completing a Master of Engineering at UTS. He has worked in infrastructure, construction and active remediation projects but has also applied his skills in the pharmaceutical and manufacturing sectors. After working on numerous Brownfield redevelopment projects in the United States, Rob returned to Australia and joined RARE, providing onsite direction for all environmental issues facing our clients.
