The Historical Society was formed in 1971 in efforts to save the Martin House. Built in 1893 by South San Francisco founding father, William J. Martin, the house was located on the corner of Grand and Eucalyptus Avenues. Unfortunately, that effort failed and a disastrous fire destroyed the beautiful house in 1974... Opened on November 6, 2008, the Historical Society Museum is housed in the former offices of the California Water Service Company. For twenty years the museum operated out of the Magnolia Senior Center (601 Grand Avenue). With the acquisition of South San Francisco memorabilia and artifacts, the museum quickly outgrew that location and moved to its current location... Historical Society of South San Francisco records publicizes the history of South San Francisco help preserve its historically unique interesting aspects.
