Calvin L. Howton Jr. (President) graduated from Dallas Baptist University with a degree in Finance. Subsequently, Mr. Howton began his career at Fidelity Investments. As a Retirement Specialist, Mr. Howton learned that customer service and maintaining a budget were essential in any line of work. Remodel/new construction projects require not only attention to detail, but keeping the project within the allocated budget. Following his employment with Fidelity Investments, Mr. Howton spent a number of years in senior management with Home Depot and Lowes where he learned material specifications and applications that are essential in the construction trade. During this time, he and his father remodeled a number of homes during his days off. It was apparent, following these projects, that construction was Mr. Howton's destiny. Mr. Howton decided it was time to pursue his dream and take CL Howton Construction to the next level. Mr. Howton devotes his time doing renovations, remodels, new construction, and designing projects thoughout the Austin area. Since then, he has managed hundreds of projects from total restorations to kitchen/bath remodels. Other than his family, CL Howton Construction is where Mr. Howton chooses to be.
Calvin Howton might be the president of CL Howton Construction, but he certainly doesn't sit in an office all day. In fact, when hired by a client to complete a construction project, Mr. Howton will be there from start to finish.
The biggest difference between CL Howton and other construction companies is that the owner himself is the one with whom you first meet, plan, design, and budget. And he will be there when the labor is happening. When you hire him, as Mr. Howton Described, "You're also hiring the guy that's in there working side-by-side with the team." Instead of sub-contracting the work that each home requires, the only exception being very large projects, Howton works closely with his trusted team of people - experts with whom he has strong relationships and knows will live up to the professional standards he sets.
After leaving the corporate world of finance in 1997, Howton's knowledge of construction, as well as the appealing aspects of working directly with people and creating professional work, led him to start CL Howton Construction. The family-owned business moved to Cedar Park when Calvin Howton relocated with his family to the Austin area in 2007. His hands-on approach and impressive results have earned the company plenty of local fans and positive reviews. The company was named "Best of the Best" in Cedar Park for home remodeling in 2010. (Since this article was written, we have been awarded this recognition for the last four years).
Though based in Cedar Park, work that Howton and his team have completed has extended into parts of Austin, Round Rock, Leander, Pflugerville, and other metro areas. His business is, for the most part, due to word-of-mouth referrals from satisfied clients. He knows well the benefit of leaving a job site with the work well done and the customer's expectations exceeded. A majority of the most recent projects completed by the construction company are residential remodels, though their services also include general construction, landscaping, and handyman jobs. High experience in everything from major kitchen and bath remodels to simple sheet rock repair and paint jobs, Howton says that no project is too big or too small for his team to tackle. And they are ready to work within any budget, too. Following a visit to the site and a discussion of an initial estimate of what the project will cost, a proposal which is free of charge, Howton works with each client to get their dream and the cost of realizing those hopes all on the same page.
Bringing homeowners' visions to life by seeing each project thought to completion is a huge part of why Calvin Howton loves his job so much. As he explained, the design aspect is fun, but so is the transformation. "It's very rewarding, very self-satisfying," said the owner. If his personal commitment to producing great work is not enough, however, homeowners will be glad to hear that all of the construction and craftsmanship completed by the team at CL Howton Construction is backed by a on-year warranty.
In the coming years, Howton has plans to expand the company to encompass more renovations and eventually home-building. But the owner and president has no intention of rushing the process or leaving behind small-scale projects in his local area. Instead, he is gearing up for an even, moderate-paced growth that will take the company's superior service into more of Cedar Park and surrounding areas.
