The Chairman of the Executive Board of Researcher for the Rule of Law, Mr. (Dr. Ahmed Miran) participated in the Regional Conference of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in Beirut - Lebanon on (11-12/1/2023). Torture and other forms of severe or inhuman or oppressive treatment or punishment.On both days of the conference, a number of productive discussions and exchanges of views were held on the most important challenges and successful examples of national mechanisms to prevent torture in Arab countries, as well as the role of regional mechanisms in supporting member states.
The meeting concluded with a proposal to establish an Arab strategy for accession to the Voluntary Protocol to the International Convention against Torture in Arab Countries. During this visit, he met with Ms. Susan Jabbour, Chairperson of the Sub-Committee for Support of Torture, in which she expressed her readiness to assist civil society organizations to participate in raising awareness and capacity building in this regard.
Also during his visit, he met with Ms. Gulshan Saglam, President of Basma International Foundation, a civil society organization in Lebanon.
