TRIBAL WATER QUALITY

This symposium is the convergence of projects that recognize multiple and longstanding traditions and systems of Indigenous governance that practice responsible relationships with water. The symposium is designed to contribute to broader approaches to water quality and its governance that move beyond narrow, technical approaches that ignore variations in the cultural politics of water. Instead, we recognize that water quality only becomes knowable and governable through social processes operating within specific cultural contexts and political practices that are couched within distinct ontological frameworks. This also means that definitions of water quality, methods of determining water quality, and responses to water degradation are not always shared... The Symposium will be released as a website populated by video stories and resources that explore Indigenous water quality governance, recognizing the practice as the intersection of long-standing traditions and systems of Indigenous..
