ADF was launched in 1994 by leaders in the Christian community like Alan Sears, Bill Bright, James Dobson, Larry Burkett, and Dr. D. James Kennedy. These leaders wanted to create an alliance-building legal organization with the goal of keeping the doors open for the Gospel... Alan Sears served as founder of Alliance Defending Freedom, building on his experience as longtime leader of the organization to strengthen alliances, forge new relationships, and develop ADF resources... We promote the freedom of every person to live out their religious convictions in the public square, just as in the home or a place of worship.
