Hematology Connect was founded in July 2021 and created by recognizing a shortage in expert benign hematologists outside of major hospitals and academic centers. In fact, in 2010 a Recruitment and Retention Working Group was created by the American Society of Hematology to solve the problem of the hematologist shortage, but it remains an issue to date. Adult benign hematology was described as an endangered field that merits protection in a recent article in OncLive (Green 2021).
