Exquisite color, texture, and form figure into designs by Caroline Price for her collaboration with Vervain, a luxury textile brand within Fabricut. Influenced by the fantastic story of her muse for the collection, Madame de Montespan, maîtresse-en-titre to Louis XIV, Caroline imbues her fabric, wallpaper and trim designs with a modern spirit that takes inspiration from the past and makes it relevant to the present moment. Lush materials and extraordinary patterns reflect the opulence of Athénaïs de Montespan's lifestyle and yet feel delectably fresh and informal- from deconstructed damask velvet to embroidered linen and printed grasscloth-all in effortlessly pairable colorways. Within each swatch, sensory elements are pulled from historical accounts of her muse's life, as well as from Caroline's personal experiences.
"I'm excited about transforming stories from her life into patterns and physical objects, something you can touch and feel and enjoy," says Caroline. "The patterns are both classic and edgy, and they pair together in unexpected ways."
Born in Kansas City and educated at Stanford University, Caroline first embarked on a successful career in political communications at The White House, producing President Reagan's television and radio addresses. She moved to London's Winfield House in her 20s when her father served as the US Ambassador to the Court of St James's. In the early 1990s, while living in London, Caroline tried her hand at designing her own flat, to overwhelming success. Her flat was featured in British House & Garden in 1992, and from then on, people began asking her to decorate their homes and corporate headquarters.
To reinforce her practical education, Caroline pursued further studies at Sotheby's and The Inchbald School of Design in London. Since launching her career and returning to the US, she has created unique interiors for US-based and international clients that express their personalities, without imposing any singular aesthetic. She is known for her stylistic versatility and for producing timeless and exceptionally tasteful spaces.
Both her interior design work and textile designs draw from many locales that have piqued her imagination, such as the Midwest, California, London, Kenya, Italy, and now, France. Exceptional architecture, colorful gardens, and history have informed her aesthetic, as have designers she knew growing up including Thomas Britt, Ted Graber, Jerome Sutter, and Dudley Poplak, along with her stylish mother, aunt, and grandmother.
