Adam Smith

Adam Smith joined Abacus CPAs in January 2021 as an intern in our Transportation Department, but now works as an Analyst in our Traditional Tax, Audit & Accounting Department. Adam, who is actively working toward earning his CPA, works regularly with Business & Individual Tax Returns and is interested in growing his knowledge and skills surrounding Audits and Financial Statement Reviews. He's passionate about helping others to solve their problems and using his knowledge to assist others. Adam graduated from Missouri State University in December 2021 with his Bachelor's in Accounting and Finance. He was also a member of Delta Sigma Pi business fraternity during his time in college. Adam is originally from the St. Louis are and loves all St. Louis sports. In his free time, he likes to work on cars, build things and woodwork, and sometimes binge-watch great TV shows. He also loves spending time on the water, especially Table Rock Lake.

Adrienne McCoy

Adrienne McCoy joined Abacus CPAs in April of 2013. As the Director of Chaos, she works closely with our partners to lead firm administration including, Marketing Strategy, Human Resources, Strategic Planning and Special Projects. She is also a certified Kolbe® Consultant supporting staff and clients in discovering innate strengths for more productive, stress free workplaces. Adrienne is originally from St. Louis, Missouri, and is a 2006 graduate of Missouri State University where she earned a bachelor's degree in marketing with an emphasis on advertising and promotions. After college, she spent time with the Springfield Cardinals in marketing and sales and with Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Ozarks in marketing and event coordination. Adrienne is an active member of the Southeast Rotary Club of Springfield as a past board member and current chair of engagement. She serves as a member of the Springfield Catholic softball association, treasurer for Holy Trinity Council of Catholic Women and a member of the finance committee of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Adrienne is also a past board member and an active member of the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce's young professionals' group, The Network, past president of Springfield Rotaract, past executive committee member of Rock'n Ribs BBQ Festival, past associate board member of Springfield Little Theatre and past member of the All-Star Smiles Sertoma Club. In 2013, Adrienne was awarded the Springfield Business Journal's 40 Under 40 honor and in 2020, Adrienne was named as a Springfield Business Journal's Most Influential Woman. Adrienne and her husband, Brent, have two daughters, Mary and Elle. Adrienne is the Girl Scout troop leader and softball coach for both girls. The family loves Cardinal's baseball and spending as much time as possible outdoors.

Alex Lettieri

Alex joined Abacus CPAs in May of 2020 and serves as client support in our Transportation Department. Alex graduated from East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina where he received his Bachelor's degree in Communications. Alex is originally from Levittown, New York. He also lived Greenville, North Carolina to attend school. Alex and his finance, Kelly, are planning to get married in the Fall of 2020. She currently works as a professor at Missouri State University. Alex loves all sports, but his favorites are running, baseball and football. He also likes to go to concerts and travel.

Amy Murphy

Amy Murphy joined Abacus CPAs in August of 2019 and serves as a Consultant in our traditional accounting department. Amy is originally from Pleasant Hope. She is currently finishing her Bachelor of Accountancy at Missouri State University. Amy has over 10 years' experience in accounting. Amy has a passion for meeting her clients needs and working with them for the best outcome possible. Amy has a younger brother named Chris and two nieces, Caitlin and Miranda. She is also an animal lover at heart. She has a horse and four dogs. In her free time Amy enjoys reading, hiking, and crafting.

Amy Waldowski

Amy Waldowski joined Abacus CPAs in December 2021 as an Associate in our Tax, Audit & Accounting department. Amy completed general studies courses at OTC in 2009 before working as a Credit and Collections Supervisor at Gannett until 2015. After that, Amy did Accounts Payable work for EPI Construction and then moved to an Office Manager and Payroll Manager position with Automated Structures. Recently, Amy worked with Accounts Payable at Killian Construction and again at Automated Structures. Amy is originally from Osceola, Missouri where she also graduated from high school. She is married to Andrew and they have three kids, 2 boys and a girl plus 3 dogs, 2 cats, and a handful of chickens! Some of Amy's hobbies include, playing softball, reading, watching her kids play sports, and binge watching movies/TV shows.

Andrea Battaglia

Andrea Battaglia joined Abacus CPAs in May of 2020. As Chief Excellence Officer, Andrea leads and elevates the firm's "Commitment to Excellence" in all areas - impacting both client and employees - to ensure we provide the Abacus Experience at all levels: individual, team and firm-wide. She oversees firm communication and marketing, learning and compliance, career coaching, internal project management and human resources. She loves to facilitate large-scale training and individualized coaching to strengthen and reinforce effective strategies for employee career growth. Andrea is an accomplished strategist, talented facilitator and focused professional who consistently drives profitable and sustainable results. She is a confident, engaging leader who is able to create desired culture change and successful organizational growth, both immediate and long-term, through innovative and disciplined use of resources. Andrea has been an Ozarks native most of her life, but lived four years in Baltimore, MD. She earned her Masters of Arts in Integrated Marketing Communication and her Bachelor of Arts in Advertising and Chemistry with a minor in Global Studies, all from Drury University. For more than 20 years, she has volunteered with local, state and national organizations leading their communication efforts. Andrea and her husband, Matt, have four kids. When Andrea has free time she likes to run or hike, weight train, visit Table Rock lake - and organize anything and everything.

Annette Wright

Annette Wright joined Abacus CPAs in October of 2017 and is currently serving as Senior Associate in our Internal Accounting department. She specializes in billing and applying payments for our Transportation Department. She has thirty plus years of accounting experience in various fields. She is passionate about working well, thoroughly, cooperatively, being precise, and getting her work completed. Annette is a proud graduate of Hendrix College where she received a degree in economics and business with a majority of her classes in accounting. She is married to her husband, Alan, and has two children, Sara and John. Annette also has a grandson that she babysits one day a week! Outside of work, Annette enjoys sports, especially watching them, helping her husband with his real estate career, and taking care of their two dogs and babysitting her two grand-dogs on occasion.

April Gregory

Her father was a Pro Musky Fisherman, and her dream is to catch one with him. April loves spending time outdoors and fishing, biking, and hiking. She also enjoys sci-fi movies and spending time with her friends and family.

Ashleigh Schroeder

Ashleigh Schroeder joined Abacus CPAs in August 2021 as an Analyst in our Traditional Tax, Audit & Accounting Department. Ashleigh graduated with her bachelor degree from Missouri State University in Accounting in May 2020 and with her Master of Accountancy in December 2021. She is a 3-year Dean's List Scholar and was the recipient of the MSCPAs scholarship. She also worked as a Senior Teller at Central Bank of the Ozarks where she earned the Legendary Teller designation 2 times. Ashleigh worked as a Staff Accountant at Bohl, House, & Samek CPAs for 18 months, where she prepared personal tax returns, monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and other projects as needed. She is currently studying for her CPA. Ashleigh is originally from Jeff City. Ashleigh and her husband Alex, have two dogs, Peter and Reagan. Ashleigh's hobbies include playing volleyball and the piano!

Ashlyn Ballard

Ashlyn started at Abacus in June 2022 as the Ambassador of Buzzworthy Excellence. She manages all client-facing communication and coordinates all marketing activity, including updating websites, social media, advertising, community connections, special celebrations, and client reviews. Ashlyn graduated from Evangel University in May 2022 with a bachelor's degree in Multimedia Journalism. In college, Ashlyn played on the women's basketball team and was the sports editor and editor-in-chief of the university's newspaper. Ashlyn and her husband, Hayden, enjoy watching and playing sports together, trying new coffee shops and dessert shops, and going to church.

Ben Clutter

He coordinates, cultivates, and champions firm training to help employees develop, apply, and own their technical and professional skills. Ben has experience in management, politics, and training. Ben graduated with a bachelor's degree in Organizational Communication from Drury University. Ben and his wife enjoy spending time with their three children and are sports fans. Beth Schulte

Beth returned to Abacus in May 2022 as the Senior Coordinator of Excellence in Resource Management and manages CFO services. Beth previously worked at Abacus for eight years as the Controller. She achieved her Master's of Accountancy from Missouri State University. Beth was awarded 40 Under 40 by the Springfield Business Journal in 2019. Beth grew up in Springfield; she, her husband, and four children live in the area. She enjoys running, hiking, traveling, and reading in her free time. Beth served as President of the Greater Ozarks Institute of Managerial Accountants (IMA) Chapter from 2017-2020. Beth is excellent in situations that require strategic organization of information. She sets priorities and puts them into appropriate sequences. Her talent with both strategies and tactics makes her essential to any massive effort.

Bethany Henson

Bethany Henson joined Abacus CPAs in November 2021 as our HR Generalist in our Administration department. Bethany is a graduate of Missouri State University in 2016 where she earned her Bachelor's degree in Economics while minoring in Business. While in college, Bethany worked at Cracker Barrel as a server. Since graduating, Bethany worked with American Family Insurance as a Licensed Insurance Producer before joining the Fordland Clinic as HR and Admin, where she has spent the last 4 years. Bethany is originally from Ava, Missouri where she graduated from Ava High School. She and her husband Kyle have one puppy named Beau and one black kitty named Mushi. Some of Bethany's hobbies include reading, baking, board games, and co-ed softball/volleyball with her friends. Bethany loves to laugh and have a good time with friends. She loves cooking for people (she is pretty sure feeding people is her love language). Bethany is highly dependable at providing comprehensive methods for monitoring activity. Others can count on her to plan thoroughly, coordinate details, and be pragmatic in the use of diagrams and schedules she creates.

Betsy Dyer

Betsy Dyer joined Abacus CPAs in October of 2010 and is currently a Consultant in our Transportation Department. Betsy specializes in preparing and reviewing tax returns for our clients who are self-employed individuals in the transportation industry. She is passionate about helping people make smarter decisions through the guidance and experience she has received over the years of working with professional CPAs. Betsy graduated from Missouri State University in December of 2018 with her bachelor's degree in accounting. Betsy also earned her Enrolled Agent designation in January of 2019. Outside of work, Betsy enjoys camping, floating, swimming, and spending time at the lake with family and friends!

Brock Gipson

Brock joined Abacus CPAs in January of 2020 and is currently a Tax Analyst for our Traditional Tax Department. Before joining Abacus full time, Brock interned with Abacus, beginning in August of 2018. Brock graduated from Missouri State University in December of 2019 with a Bachelor of Accounting and a minor in data analytics. Brock is originally from Logan-Rogersville, Missouri, and graduated from Logan-Rogersville high school. He is one of six children and enjoys spending time with his large family. Brock has two dogs that keep him busy, Finley, a yellow lab, and Ferb, a mini golden doodle. In his free time, Brock enjoys golfing, basketball, and watching his favorite baseball team, The St. Louis Cardinals. One fun fact about Brock is that he is a World record holder for participating in the world's largest game of duck-duck-goose.

Brooke Shepherd

Brooke Shepherd joined Abacus in January of 2016. She is currently a Coordinator in our Transportation Department. Brooke has several years of experience in the customer service field and tax returns. Brooke is married to her husband, Michael who is a Springfield Police Officer. Together they have a beautiful daughter and baby boy!

Caleb Kubacak

Caleb graduated from Southwest Baptist University in December of 2019 with a Bachelor of Accounting and earned his CPA license in July 2022. Before starting his position at Abacus, Caleb worked at Liberty National Insurance Company in Little Rock Arkansas as an Insurance Agent. Caleb is originally from Little Rock, Arkansas, and is one of six children in his family. He married his wife Cat in January 2020. In his free time, Caleb enjoys golfing and working out, hunting, and hanging out with friends.

Caleigh Yost

Caleigh Yost joined Abacus CPAs in December 2021 as an Analyst in the Traditional Tax, Audit & Accounting Department. Caleigh graduated with a bachelor's degree in Accounting from the College of the Ozarks in December of 2021. She is now furthering her career by working towards obtaining her CPA license. Caleigh moved around frequently growing up and spent time in Missouri, Louisiana, and Texas. These days, she has settled down with her husband, Zeke, in Kansas City, Missouri. During her time away from the office, Caleigh enjoys being outdoors. Her family especially loves traveling to see the different zoos across the country. Her other favorite hobbies include readings, playing mini golf, and watching documentaries.

Candice Alcantar

Chad Cannon joined Abacus CPAs in December of 2018 as an Associate in the Abacus Transportation Division. He currently serves as a Senior Associate in the Transportation Division. Chad received his associate's degree in business administration from East Central Community College in Decatur, Mississippi. Chad has a son and a daughter. His main hobbies includes attending all types of sporting events, especially ones involving the Chicago Cubs or Dallas Cowboys! Chris Duvall

Chris began at Abacus in July 2022 as an Accounting and Tax Analyst. Chris brings years of accounting experience, including time with Expedia, Inc., Penmac, and managing a team in not-for-profit fundraising for clients. Chris and his wife, Caitlin, have two children, Ashlynn and Elliana. In his free time, he enjoys traveling (especially to Florida and Colorado), hiking, boating, fishing, and outdoor activities. Chris currently serves as the Personal Ministries Director for his church and on the Church Board.

Cristen Snyder

Cristen joined Abacus CPAs in November of 2020 as a Senior Analyst in our Internal Accounting Department. She specializes in billing and applying payments for our Transportation Department. Cristen attended college of the Ozarks and received her Bachelor of Arts in Accounting. For the last 5 years Cristen worked as a Staff Accountant at Cox College. Prior to that, she worked with our team at Abacus CPAs, LLC as a staff accountant from May 2011 to June of 2015 in the accounting services department. Cristen is originally from Crane, Missouri. Her husband's name is Eric and they have been married for almost a decade. They have two children, Colton and Lindsey. They also have 7 goats and counting. Cristen enjoys attending and serving the Lord in the Kidszone at Crossway Baptist Church, cooking, and spending time outside with her family. Cristian Rath joined Abacus CPAs in October of 2015 and is currently a Senior Consultant in our Tax, Audit, & Accounting Department. Cristian specializes in Business Tax and Business Organization. He is passionate about helping companies find ways to use resources effectively and grow in their industry. Cristian is a proud 2016 graduate of Missouri State University where he received a bachelor's degree in Accounting. He earned his CPA in 2017. He and his wife have three sons: Theodor, Thalen, and Teddison. In his free time, Cristian enjoys reading and doing math with his sons, mountain biking, and watching the Dallas Cowboys and Nebraska Cornhusker football. He is also a member of Rotaract Club of Springfield and has served as treasurer fro various not-for-profits and campaigns in the past. Helping others and food are his passions. When he can combine the two, there is never a better time!

Daniel Statesel

Daniel joined Abacus CPAs in March 2022 in Audit in the Traditional Department. Daniel is a 2020 graduate of Evangel University, earning a double major in Accounting and Management. He originally joined Abacus CPAs as a tax season intern during his junior year. Before returning to Abacus, Daniel worked in audit at KPM for two years. Daniel is from Independence, Missouri. During college, Daniel was the Accounting Club president, an Enactus member, was on the varsity soccer team, and coached and refereed soccer. Daniel and his wife have a daughter named Miriam. His hobbies include refereeing soccer and anything outside. His favorite cookie is snickerdoodle, and his favorite movie is "Airplane."

Dina Graves

Dina Graves, CCSP, joined Abacus CPAs in August of 2015 and is currently a Senior Coordinator in our Transportation Department. She specializes in Customer Service and Tax. Dina is passionate about tax preparation and review, internal management, and culture building. Dina attended Fort Hayes, KS University Online via Thailand and has a degree in ITTT-TEFL. From 2003 to 2006, Dina was a University and Private K-12 English teacher in China. Dina was recognized in May 2020 for her work with the Abacus Value Award of Client Service Orientation, one of the highest honors the firm bestows. She also recently earned her Certified Customer Service Professional designation, focused on managing service excellence. Dina is married and has 3 daughters. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, attending her kids' sporting events, and traveling. Dina excels when strength and endurance are required. She is effective at demonstrating what needs to be done and at making it happen in a tangible way others recognize as showing great quality. Doris Helmick

Duncan Gakuru

Duncan Gakuru joined Abacus CPAs in June 2021 as an Accounting Support Specialist on our TAG Team in Transportation. Duncan is an accounting student at Evangel University getting ready to start his senior year. At Evangel, he runs track and field, participates in Enactus and is a member of the MoCPA. He also worked in the dining room as a student assistant. Prior to coming to Evangel, he also worked as a seasonal teller at Kenya Women Microfinance Bank.

Emily Little

Grace joined Abacus in July 2022 as a Client Support Associate in the PRIME Office. Grace graduated from Missouri State University. She has experience assisting customers and coworkers and loves helping people. Grace is from Springfield and has family in Missouri and Texas. In her free time, she enjoys watching new movies, spending time with her boyfriend's nieces and nephews, knitting and crocheting, and trying new places to eat.

John Helms

John Helms III joined Abacus CPAs in October of 2006, and then again in August of 2016. He is currently serving as a Partner for our team and oversees all departments. John specializes in Fraud, Tax, and Accounting work. He has over 10 years of experience in providing accounting guidance and solutions to individuals and small businesses in Southwest Missouri. John is a proud 2007 and 2008 graduate from Missouri State University where he received a bachelor's and master's degree in accounting. He received his CPA license in 2010 and his CFE in 2012. In 2014, he was awarded the Department of Defense award for Outstanding Support of Military Personnel. John and his wife, Angie, have two children, Samantha and John IV. In his free time, John enjoys spending time with his family, outdoor activities, Cardinals baseball, and Green Bay Packers football.

Traci Morrow is the go-to payroll specialist at Abacus CPAs and brings more than 20 years of experience and knowledge to the table. Traci works with multiple businesses ranging from a large camping resort, factories, restaurants, local attractions, and many insurance agencies assisting them with payroll questions as well as bookkeeping issues. Traci is a life-long learner with a certification from Tri-Star Business School and has taken additional courses in accounting at Wright State University. Traci continues to take various payroll related classes to hone her skills, as she prides herself on providing excellent customer service to her clients. She takes a payroll law class every year and is also a licensed Certified Payroll Specialist. In her spare time, Traci enjoys cooking and traveling and is fascinated especially with Italy and some of the Islands in the Caribbean. She also enjoys spending time with her family on the beach when she is not working in the remote Florida office.

William (Bill) Dunton is the managing Partner of Abacus CPAs, LLC, one of the leading Certified Public Accounting firms in the Missouri region. Bill, a native of Carmel, Maine, moved to Springfield, Missouri in 1982, where he graduated with a degree in accounting from Missouri State University. After starting his accounting career in Kansas City at Deloitte & Touché, Bill had an opportunity to serve as the Tax and Internal Audit Manager for Mid America Dairymen (now known as Dairy Farmers of America). After serving in this role for several years, Bill joined Whitlock and Associates where he managed clients in the Branson area. In 1998, Bill opened Dunton and Associates as the sole proprietor. Through two mergers, and a name change to Abacus CPAs, Bill remains the managing partner and leader of the firm's growth and innovation. He directly manages a variety of services which include: accounting, tax, consulting and strategic planning. Bill currently serves as Treasurer of the Board of Gillioz Theater and a Trustee for Second Baptist Church in Springfield. Bill enjoys playing golf during his free time. He also enjoys working in the yard and is a devoted Boston Red Sox baseball fan. Bill is married to his wife Lisa and has two children, Drew and Allie. Dunton knows people are the foundation of success. His clients consider him a Trusted Adviser because of how he lives his life both personally and professionally. Clients and employees respect that he is willing to share and live his beliefs and have more faith in Dunton as a result.
