Despite tremendous research efforts, we still know very little about how brain functions at a system level. The computational neuroimaging and neuroscience lab (CN2L) led by Dr. Deqiang Qiu in the Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences at Emory University aspires to contribute to the better understanding of how the brain works in both its normal and pathological conditions. The human brain is consisted of more than 86 billion neurons and each neuron has about 7000 synapses on average. Although the brain is only 2% of the body weight, it consumes up to 20% of the total energy. We use Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) as the primary experimental instrument for our investigations; and develop advanced MRI imaging techniques, image processing methods and computational models to advance our goals. We collaborate with physician scientists to better understand brain function and its pathophyiology in a widespectrum of conditions including normal aging, Alzheimer's Disease, stroke and..
