Mr Naeem Haq

Job Titles:
  • Consultant Eye Surgeon
Mr Naeem Haq is a Consultant Eye Surgeon with a specialist expertise in ‘keyhole' micro-incision cataract surgery and lens replacement surgery for patients who wish to reduce their dependence on glasses. Mr Haq is the Lead Consultant Eye Surgeon for Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust (SFT). Mr Haq greatly enjoys training and following several years tenure recently stepped down as the Royal College of Ophthalmologist's Tutor for SFT to become the Governance Lead for the Ophthalmology department at SFT. Both these roles enabled Mr Haq to explore his passion for training the eye surgeons of the future and improving quality of services for patients. Mr Haq completed advanced subspecialist Fellowship training in Oculoplastic, Lacrimal and Orbital surgery and runs this service at SFT treating patients from Wilts, Hants, Dorset and beyond. He graduated from the University of Leeds and has been practising in Ophthalmology for over 20 years, completing his post-graduate Ophthalmic Specialist Training in London and the Midlands. Mr Haq has presented his research all over the world and has an interest in Public Health Medicine and preventable blindness. He completed a Master of Public Health degree including a dissertation project on the assessment of a Vitamin A supplementation programme in rural Pakistan. Mr Haq is passionate about charity work and has performed research and cataract surgery for charities in developing countries including Cambodia, Ghana and Pakistan. Closer to home he is an Ambassador for the STARS Appeal at SFT. Mr Haq is also a Medical Appraiser, sits on a Medical Advisory Committee for a private hospital, is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and a member of the British Oculoplastic Surgery Society. Mr Wakefield I can only describe the results of the cataract operations you did for me as "life enhancing". I only have to use glasses on rare occasions, when the light is low, and the print is small. Otherwise, I can see near and far with restored clarity and focus. Driving has become a pleasure again, my bird identification skills are restored, I can thread a needle without stabbing myself, and I have gained hours a week by not having to hunt down the right pair of glasses for what I want to do.
