Alex Denby

Alex joined Jaywing as a senior risk consultant and has supported clients with a range of projects, including IRB and IFRS9 model development, implementation and validation, lending decision strategies, the development of debt pricing model solutions, as well as pre-delinquency strategies. He has over 15 years' experience working in a variety of analytically based roles across the credit risk lifecycle, with exposure to a range of industry sectors and retail lending products having worked for 4most, Euristix, Northern Rock, Bradford and Bingley and Cooperative Financial Services. Alex has a BSc in Computing-Management Studies from the University of Leeds.

Andrew Fryatt - CEO

Andrew has more than 30 years' experience in technology-dependent businesses, primarily in the Retail and Telecoms sectors. He began his career in the Mars Group, progressing through various marketing roles before joining Kingfisher Group in a senior marketing role. His experience included senior marketing and commercial roles before moving into general management, and he has run major divisions of Daisy and Zen Internet, as well as gaining experience as CEO of Ideal Shopping Direct Plc. He has a particular focus on customer excellence and has received several awards on behalf of his businesses for delivering outstanding service.

Ben O'Brien - Managing Director

Ben has twenty-five years of experience in financial services. He specialises in data science, machine learning, credit risk, fraud, forecasting, stress testing, model governance and macro-economic modelling. He has a history of working in management consulting, advising clients on maximising commercial advantage from the effective use of data. He has deep skills in analysis and predictive modelling that he has recently applied to the fields of machine learning and artificial intelligence. With experience from Experian as a Business Analyst and then a Consultant, Ben joined Jaywing in 2001 as Risk Consultant and went on to become Risk Practice Director. and then Managing Director in 2016. Ben has been instrumental in the establishment of Jaywing's risk management, data science and analytics services. Ben combines practice management with hands-on analytical and systems/process design consultancy for financial services clients. Experienced in risk matters such as ICAAP, stress testing, credit analytics, modelling, scoring, model monitoring and decision systems, Ben brings a wide array of consultancy expertise to the table. He has a strong analytical consulting professional with a degree in Mathematics from University College London.

Carl Ireland

Carl has 15 years' experience in financial services. Following experience as an analytical management consultant, Carl worked for the Co-operative bank in various senior analytical finance and risk roles. He joined Jaywing in 2017 leading regulatory and model risk projects for firms of different sizes. He specialises in model risk, risk governance, prudential regulation, regulatory reporting, credit risk and analytics and stress testing. He has expertise in IRB, IFRS 9 and financial modelling for retail, SME, business, corporate and institutional lending. Ian is currently Non-Executive Chairman of Jaywing plc. Ian is also a Non-Executive Director and Chairman of the Audit Committee of Gusbourne plc, an AIM listed English sparkling-wine business. He is a Non-Executive Director of a number of other privately-owned businesses. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and holds an honours degree in Economics from the University of Nottingham.

Katie Stones

Katie joined Jaywing in 2006 and is one of our most experienced Risk Consultants. Katie specialises in portfolio analytics, scorecard development, strategy-setting, forecasting, and reporting. She also has experience in IFRS9 and IRB, having served as interim Capital & Impairment manager at TSB for two periods during the past 4 years. Recently, Katie managed the delivery of an early warning enhancement to the alignment process and a "Challenger ML model" tool for HSBC's Model Monitoring team. Prior to this Katie managed the due-diligence analysis for a liquidating portfolio as part of a potential acquisition by an investment bank - producing a cash-flow forecast and segmentation analysis, defending the methodology and results against robust challenges from the investors and sellers. Katie's recent strategy work includes a project with IKANO to devise AML/KYC rules for a new credit product and a major project with BNP Paribas to set their policy rules and cut-off strategy for their new Dixons scorecard. This work also included analysing the flow through the application process and identifying reasons for drop-outs along the way. A second project with BNP was to review their initial and ongoing limit strategies.

Mark has 15 years' experience as a risk analyst and technical lead. Since joining Jaywing 6 years ago, Mark has been the lead consultant on numerous projects covering design, development and validation of IFRS 9 and IRB models and scorecards across a range of lenders and portfolios. Prior to joining Jaywing, Mark worked at Lloyds Banking Group for 6 years in IRB and operational model development and monitoring. This was followed by 3 years heading up Risk Analytics at VisualDNA. Neil Plant

With over 30 years of working with business teams looking to make best use of data, Neil brings significant, hands-on experience to the use of data within organisations. As well as understanding technical issues, he is familiar with many of the challenges faced by business teams. ​ Neil is a firm proponent of the idea of effective Data Management being key to business users having the confidence and ability to use as wide a range of data as possible in pursuit of business objectives. He also champions approaches where business users, as those with most experience of data, take ownership of the management of data while relying on technology teams to deliver data. ​ Neil has advised many Jaywing clients in a range of industry sectors and on a variety of topics (financial services risk - prime and sub-prime, financial regulation - IRB, IFRS 9, BCBS 239, direct marketing/customer communications, Open Banking, CRM/Sales, legal), in the development of Data Management functions. He has also led many of the developments associated with such functions from strategy development and target operating models through database/data mart design to implementation of data dictionary and data quality solutions. ​ He is familiar with most major relational database technologies (MS SQL Server, Teradata, DB2, Oracle, MySQL) and has found this experience useful when working with non-relational, SQL based platforms as well as unstructured data. He has worked with many of the tools used to access data by business users in reporting, analysis, and customer engagement (SAS, MS Dynamics, Power BI, SugarCRM, various SQL clients). Nevan McBride

Nevan is the Director of the Risk Practice with responsibility for the successful delivery of all Risk projects within Jaywing. He is a data, analysis, modelling and regulation expert who has delivered or managed the delivery of credit risk solutions across his 18-year career. His experience encompasses strategy and modelling across the entire credit lifecycle and compliance and modelling to fulfil the requirements of IRB, IFRS 9 and stress testing. Since he joined Jaywing over nine years ago, Nevan has led and provided oversight for a number of large-scale client projects including Royal Bank of Scotland, Nationwide, Shawbrook Bank, Starling Bank, Sainsbury's Bank and Yorkshire Building Society. He led the IFRS 9 and IRB propositions including advising on the design, development, validation and implementation of these regulatory model frameworks. Nevan's experience also includes almost five years working at a Credit Bureau helping clients to make better decisions using data-driven analytics. This followed a number of years as a statistical modeller with experience of developing and validating IRB models and credit scorecards. Nevan has a degree in applied mathematics and statistics.

Nick Sime

Nick's expertise is in predictive modelling and has presided over many scorecard developments, primarily in the areas of credit and fraud risk, and has also delivered multiple credit strategy reviews. More recently, Nick efforts have focused on exploiting the power Archetype, our AI-based modelling tool, delivering consistent and impressive benefits over traditional models. With over 20 years of service at Jaywing, Nick has worked with many clients including Secure Trust Bank, Virgin Money, and Chetwood. Prior to this, he worked at first direct and HSBC.

Paul Monaghan

He was a Director of the French and Australian entities of the Goelet family wine business (SCEA Domaine de Nizas and Red Earth Nominees Pty Ltd respectively) until December 2020. Steve Finlay

Previously, Steve worked at Computershare Loan Services as Head of Analytics, The Co-Operative Bank as Senior Manager for Risk Models, HMRC as a predictive analytics consultant and earned a PhD in Management Science from Lancaster University. He has written several academic and business books. The new edition of his latest book, "Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning for Business: A No-Nonsense Guide to Data Driven Technologies" was published last year.
