Capt. Mathias began his career with India Steamship Ltd. in 1988 and worked his way up the ranks to Master Mariner, also achieving a Bachelor's degree in Physics and an equivalent Bachelor's degree in Nautical Science along the way. He has sailed on General Cargo Vessels, Capesize bulkers, Lakers, Fully refrigerated reefer vessels and command experience on Panamax / post Panamax container vessels. In 2009, he completed a post-graduation at the University of Plymouth Business School, and was awarded an MSc in International Shipping with Distinction. He hung up his seaboots in 2013 and has since served as Operations Manager - South Asia with Inchcape India, General Manager - Gobel / Rainoil Nigeria, Inchcape Qatar - Head of Survey and Inchcape Qatar -Head of Marine Division. Brian is an open-minded individual with a flexible approach to work, which enables accommodation of change. Able to work well with a group or on own initiative. Willing to take any responsibilities and assignments, regardless of the challenge. A self-reliant individual with the ability to pick up new ideas and concepts quickly. Brian Thornborrow

Chief Engineer Brian Thornborrow has conducted surveys for grounding damage on behalf of Owners, P&I Clubs, Lawyers and Insurance interests and other concerned parties. He has acted for underwriters on post sinking/salvage survey and repair claims. He has undertaken a significant number of surveys on Machinery and Collision damage. Pre-Entry and follow up P&I Condition Surveys on AHTS, Container, General Cargo, Bulk and DP vessels in addition to numerous Bulk Cargo, General Cargo, Ro-Ro, and Refrigerated damage/shortage surveys. He has undertaken underwater surveys of vessels damaged by grounding and port channel soundings using sonar. Fire damage and Fuel Oil Quality surveys on vessels and cargo for P&I and H&M. Has acted as Warranty Surveyor on cargo of up to 4500 tonnes, including Gantry Cranes and RTG's. He has acted as an expert witness for local P&I Correspondents, UK Clubs and Lawyers.

Captain Peter Valles

Captain Peter Valles is the Regional General Manager at Alto Marine Services with responsibility for the regional management and development of the company in Europe, the Middle East, South Asia and Africa. He started his career in the marine industry in 1991; 16 years of sea service following which he stepped ashore to become a surveyor in 2006 and continues to be an active surveyor in the field as well as a consultant on all things maritime. For the offshore sector he has acted as a company representative, marine warranty surveyor in rig-moving, offshore installation construction, deep water pipe laying and other high risk offshore activities and associated surveys including suitability, condition, towage, break bulk and heavy lift cargoes, vessel condition surveys and pre-purchase surveys of a number of bulk vessels and product tankers. He has been a part of a team in a number of offshore installations which included underwater survey work with divers and ROV's, jack up installation barges and rigs and offshore installations from initial risk assessments, operational method statement reviews, on site planning, execution and trouble shooting. He has the experience and a sound working knowledge of bulk carriers, oil tankers and containers vessels and the handling and supervision of bulk, break bulk and containerized cargoes. Peter is known for his ability to handle complex claims with a practical approach to achieve viable and swift results particularly on P&I and H&M matters and is known for his approachability, technical ability and, clear and concise advice. Peter qualified as a Master Mariner from the UK with an unlimited tonnage license. He has a Diploma in Marine Industry Survey specializing in Marine warranty from the University of Portsmouth, NEBOSH certification in Occupational health and Safety (part 1&2) , as well as an IICL certification in container inspection. He holds an MBA in operations and finance. He is currently pursuing insurance certification through the Chartered Insurance Institute of London. His professional interests focus on insurance and risk with respect to the marine industry. He is a founding member and Fellow of the UAE branch of the International Institute of Marine Surveying, continues to serve on the committee since 2009 and was Chairman from 2016 to 2018. He is also an Associate Fellow of the Nautical Institute and served on the NI UAE branch committee in 2017. He is a member of the Chartered Insurance Institute in London with aspirations of becoming a full-fledged insurance professional.

Ian Edward Wilson

Ian is Marine Chief Engineer with fourteen years seagoing experience. Over twenty-seven years surveying experience including roles as LR Non-Exclusive Class and Flag surveyor, ISM/ISPS Lead Auditor, H&M and P&I senior surveyor with vast experience in damage and warranty surveys. LPG and LNG expertise. Specialized work includes JH 143 Shipyard audits, JH 2015 audits, Port and Terminal Risk Management audits. Towage and Voyage Approvals, MWS and GA surveyor. He is known for his ability to manage complex and litigious claims for ships, oil rigs, barges, local craft, yachts and marine installations on behalf of insurance Underwriters as well as acting and advising on behalf of Underwriters and ship owners in salvage operations, towage, warranty and condition/safety assessment of various vessels, offshore units, Oil and Gas facilities, ship repair and new-building yards. He has also acted as a consultant for projects where technical specifications were written, costs estimated, and commercial contracts negotiated. He is a qualified auditor for Port Risk and Oil Terminal Risk Assessments and Shipyard Risk Assessments, and is a proven expert witness.
