CHIC

CHIC was founded by four undergraduate Biomedical Engineering students from Tulane University during the 2021-2022 Team Design course. Team Design provides students with the opportunity to apply knowledge and skills from other courses to a medical device design project. All four members of our team were very passionate about focusing on a project that addresses a problem that is very relevant around the world... Our team at CHIC has proven that an effective scalp cooling system can be made at a more affordable price. Even with the typical medical device industry markup, the cost of the CHIC device is 90% less expensive than the direct competitors. Furthermore, the device's novel bristle design allows patients with any hair type to utilize scalp cooling as a hair loss prevention mechanism. CHIC scalp cooling improves on existing solutions by increasing accessibility for all chemotherapy patients... Both of the two FDA-cleared scalp cooling systems produce inconsistent patient outcomes..
