Mr Spence-Jones qualified in London from St Mary's Hospital medical school. Clinical training in obstetrics and gynaecology and research was in London, Cambridge and Canada. He additionally completed the general surgery fellowship. He has written chapters for reference text books, and taken part in research projects. In 2013 he was President of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology section of the Royal Society of Medicine.
