Dr. Manning is the Director of the Behavioral Neuropsychology Lab, Vice Chair for Faculty Development in Neurology, as well as Director (and co-founder) of the Memory Aging and Care Clinic. Dr. Manning is a tenured Associate Professor of Clinical Neurology. She has published work in the areas of aging, Alzheimer's disease, Huntington's disease, and Parkinson's disease. She oversees and coordinates the many opportunities for our postdoctoral fellows to become involved in Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (ADRC) activities and neuroclinical trials. Our satellite ADRC focuses on minority and rural individuals with dementia and Dr. Manning has been integral in its establishment and the recruitment and retention of participants. She is particularly interested in the impact of dementia on caregivers and families. In addition, she teaches graduate courses on the biological bases of mental illness and on assessment.

Greg Townsend was appointed Associate Dean for Diversity and Medical Education at the School of Medicine in 2014. Judy Pointer

As program administrator, Judy Pointer provides key support to the School of Medicine's Office for Diversity. She serves as a liaison between the Diversity Office and the Student National Medical Association, the Latino Medical Student Association, and the Association of Native American Medical Students, among others. Judy is a mentor to students and a member of both the UVA Diversity Council and the National Association of Medical Minority Educators. She helps organize the School's participation in recruitment fairs at UVA and across the country. She received her undergraduate degree from Fisk University, and a master's degree in higher education administration from Vanderbilt University/Peabody College.

Leah Beard

Leah Beard manages diversity programs within the School of Medicine, where she is responsible for training our faculty and staff about Unconscious Bias. Leah has also been leading our Summer Medical Leadership Program. She is a community CASA volunteer and a member of UVA's Staff Senate, Diversity Council, Diversity Consortium, Committee on Women Steering Committee, and Health System Community Relations Steering Committee. Leah has been outspoken in increasing diversity and intersectionality within the School of Medicine, as well as within our Charlottesville community. As Chief Diversity & Community Engagement Officer, Tracy M. Downs, MD, FACS, is UVA Health's leading voice on diversity, equity and inclusion. Within the greater Charlottesville region, and across the broader state of Virginia, he works collaboratively to improve community health and well-being by decreasing health disparities. Dr. Downs' office is located in McKim Hall on the 4th floor The Diversity and Community Engagement Office offers a range of opportunities, resources, and events both within and beyond the health system. We promote inclusion and equity for patients and families, team members, and community members throughout the region. Tracy M. Downs, MD, FACS, is the inaugural Senior Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the School of Medicine. He is also Chief Diversity & Community Engagement Officer for UVA Health. In these roles, he guides efforts to ensure an inclusive, optimal and respectful learning, training and working environment. Within the greater Charlottesville region, and across the broader state of Virginia, he works collaboratively to improve community health and well-being by decreasing health disparities. Dr. Downs comes to UVA from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, where he was Associate Dean for Diversity and Multicultural Affairs and Professor of Urologic Oncology. At UW, Dr. Downs played an instrumental role in overseeing the recruitment of and medical education support programs for individuals from ethnically diverse backgrounds underrepresented in medicine. He also served as Faculty Director of the Cancer Health Disparities Initiative at UW's Carbone Comprehensive Cancer Center. In addition to his leadership role, Dr. Downs is a board-certified urologist specializing in the surgical treatment of urologic cancers, with a sub-specialty focus in the treatment of both prostate and bladder cancer. He also has extensive experience in taking care of patients with general urology health concerns and overseeing clinical trials.
