Keir Bedwell, a Diesel engineer in Essex would often visit the Norfolk Broads with his family for holidays and kept his own boat in Stalham. In 1973, when Keir and his wife Lois learnt that there was a boatyard in the area for sale, they jumped at the opportunity. Within 3 months, they had moved with their sons Mark and Neil to Acle and were letting out their first boats - at that time with 9 in the fleet.
