Mr. Lopez's interest in defending immigrant rights began after mass factory immigration sweeps took place in Michigan. He became actively involved in immigrant rights organizations and has been featured as a legal expert on Spanish public radio in the area of criminal-immigration issues. Mr. Lopez has also served as a panelist in several workshops designed to inform immigrants of their constitutional rights.
Mr. Lopez was a member of a team of attorneys in the civil rights case of two women shot by the LAPD during the Christopher Dorner manhunt, which resulted in a $4.2 million settlement.
