SEPSISCAN is a spin-off company originating from the Institute of Atomic Physics and Spectroscopy at the University of Latvia, based in Riga, Latvia... Sepsis is a life-threatening syndrome of organ dysfunction caused by inadequate immune systems response to infection. It is a major global health concern affecting around 48.9 million people every year. It is estimated that every year sepsis kills 11 million people and that worldwide 1 in 5 deaths is associated with sepsis. The most effective means to combat infection and to reverse life-threatening organ dysfunction caused by sepsis is rapid diagnosis and immediate treatment and resuscitation.
