I believe there is an empathic relationship between a designer and people. As such, a designer's goal is not to create systems, but to create humanized systems. This is done from the belief that people are experts of their own experiences. A designer then, must seek to understand those experiences, and the people who live them. This philosophy means engaging people as experts. In the field of Healthcare, this is even more important. Because systems are rigid (and people are not), a designer must seek ways adapt technology for people and to enhance their lives. Therefore, as a designer, my goal is to humanize the development of systems by involving people as co-creators, not participants.
