Adam Fermanich

Adam joined DoIT from the State of Wisconsin - Department of Administration (DOA) where he most recently served as Human Resources manager. Prior to serving as the HR manager for DOA, Adam held a variety of HR positions at DOA in the HR Shared Services business model supporting the Department of Health Services, and in similar roles with companies including ProAmpac, Rexnord Industries, and Sargento Foods. He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee and holds a master's degree from UW-Milwaukee in human resources and labor relations, and is a member of several professional HR organizations.

Brianna Kuhn

Brianna is a Communications Specialist and works with campus partners to share information about new or existing technology services. Her daily work involves developing communications plans, writing articles for websites and newsletters, and drafting other publications. Brianna earned her bachelor's degree in graphic design and creative arts from Illinois State University and her master's in college student personnel from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. She has experience in communications, teaching and learning, and student orientation programming. She enjoys collaborating with campus partners to enhance the student experience. Brianna recently served as Treasurer of the Madison Student Personnel Association for 3 years and is currently a member of the Student Panels committee.

Christine Anderson

Christine Anderson has been a UX architect working within Academic Technology at DoIT since 2019. Her main focus is on creating student/user centered and digitally accessible websites and applications for UW-Madison. Her work at the university includes research, evaluations, consultations, design, prototyping and testing. Christine's background is rooted in fine art and graphic design. She also is interested in, and has worked on community based participatory design practices, curriculum development for the arts, social justice through the arts and environment design.

David Pagenkopf is a senior leader with 22+ years of experience leading information technology teams. Prior to his coming to UW- Madison in 2011, he served at TDS Telecommunications, Promega, Kraft and Motorola. In addition to his strong and broad experience in all aspects of information technology, he has extensive experience in capital budget planning, developing and managing to operating budgets, financial business case development, contract development and management, vendor management, licensing, strategic planning, business development and new product development. David has a Master of Engineering Professional Practice & Engineering Management and a BS in Electrical & Computer Engineering, both from UW- Madison.

Joe Tarter

Joe Tarter has over 17 successful years at UW- Madison gaining experience with every facet in the design, development, delivery, and management of a broad set of IT services in support of the higher-education community. Beginning his career with operational‑service support, he has progressed through an evolving role, ultimately becoming a Service Team Leader for several enterprise-scale, business-critical functions, including Identity and Access Management, Campus Active Directory, Calendaring and Scheduling, and List Services. Beginning in 2014, he assumed the role of manager for Integrated Applications, reshaping this group into a dynamic, high-performing team of software engineers using modern tools, services, and techniques. In early 2019, Joe was tasked with serving as Interim Director, Application Infrastructure Services. Joe has a Bachelor of Science degree in Atmospheric Sciences and Meteorology from Texas A&M University. He has completed both the MOR Associates IT Leadership Program and EDUCAUSE Institute Management Program.

Kyle is an information designer, developer, editor and teacher with more than 2 decades' experience creating websites, emails, presentations and other digital publications-and teaching others how to do the same. In addition to his role leading the DoIT Communications creative services team, he is an instructor at UW- Madison's Division of Continuing Studies, teaching Professional Writing, Presenting for Influence, Elements of Digital Style and Using Data Visualization & Infographics to Tell Your Story. Kyle has a master's in communication from UW-Whitewater, a certificate in UX design from NYU and a certificate in online teaching from UW- Madison's Division of Continuing Studies. He is a graduate of the EDUCAUSE Institute Management program.

Laura Grady

Laura Grady is a UX Consultant at the UW-Madison Division of Information Technology (DoIT). She has more than 18 years of experience in strategic planning, creating successful marketing campaigns, developing promotional materials for both digital and print, managing projects, and writing. More recently, she has been focusing on leadership initiatives, content strategy and user experience. She is passionate about developing leadership skills in herself and others, as well as cultivating relationships among IT staff on campus. Outside of work, she enjoys the great outdoors with her family and friends. Laura holds bachelors' degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Wisconsin‑Stevens Point.

Laurel Belman

Laurel Belman plans and executes internal and external DoIT events and meetings. Some of the events she coordinates include the DoIT All Staff Meeting, IT Professionals Conference, and IT Leadership Conference. Ms. Belman earned her B.A. from Lawrence University in History and her M.A. from the University of Leicester in Museum Studies. Before DoIT she planned and executed events at the UW Law School Research Centers including symposiums and speaker series. She has planned and executed events and programs at the Kansas Museum of History and Smithsonian National Museum of American History. She has developed museum exhibitions at the Kansas Museum of History and the Smithsonian National Museum of American History. Her publications include "Bronx (1970s)" in Places of Invention (Smithsonian Institution Scholarly Press, 2015) and numerous articles on invention and museum objects. Her academic interests include invention and innovation, museum exhibition, and English History.

Her main focus is on evaluating the accessibility of UW-Madison's digital tools and software. Leah's background is in quality assurance, user experience, and digital accessibility. She is also a graduate student at UW-Madison's iSchool, earning a Master of Library and Information Studies.

Lois Brooks

Lois Brooks joined UW- Madison in August 2018 as vice provost for information technology and chief information officer. Prior to that she served as Oregon State University's vice provost for information services and chief information officer. She is active nationally in the higher education community, having served in leadership and governance roles with the Northwest Academic Computing Consortium, Unizin, Educause Learning Initiative, and Internet2. She is the recipient of the 2022 ORBIE award for excellence in IT leadership, in the large enterprise category. She also served for many years at Stanford University, most recently as Director of Academic Computing. During her tenure at Stanford she co-founded the Sakai Foundation (now Apareo), serving on the Board of Directors and later as Executive Director. Mary Evansen

Mary Evansen is the Communications Director for the University of Wisconsin-Madison Division of Information Technology (DoIT). She has over 30 years of experience in marketing communications and strategy. She is responsible for large- scale strategic communications campaigns supporting the services, projects, initiatives and events that DoIT provides to UW-Madison and UW System. DoIT Communications comprises 8 full- time staff who provide high-quality communication strategy and planning, brand management, emergency communications, content strategy, information design, IT storytelling and event-planning services for DoIT stakeholders. Her work supports communications for the UW-Madison Chief Information Officer and DoIT departments. Throughout her career, Mary has made staff development, mentorship and collaboration a priority. She serves on the University Relations Council, Information Technology Collaborative Coordination Committee and numerous other campus and divisional leadership teams and committees. Mary holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications from the University of Wisconsin‑Oshkosh.

Prior to joining DoIT, she served on campus as Assistant Director, then Director, for the Department of Anesthesiology in the School of Medicine and Public Health. She brings to her role extensive experience leading and coordinating the institution budgeting process, a responsibility she also held at both Madison College and DePaul University. Sarah holds an MS in Public Service Management from DePaul University and a BS in Rehabilitation Psychology from UW- Madison.

Tadd Smejkal

Tadd has more than 20 years of professional IT experience and has held a number of senior leadership roles in software delivery, IT operations, customer support, and cloud adoption. Before coming to UW-Madison, Tadd led the Cloud Operations and Software Product Development divisions of WTS Paradigm, and served as senior manager at TDS Telecom in several roles including Software Development and Oracle Applications. Tadd's leadership experience spans many critical areas of information technology including the development and operations of cloud-based hosting services, promoting cloud adoption on Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure platforms, modernization concepts like infrastructure-as-code, and more automated practices for DevOps.
