CYNERGY - Key Persons

Andy Hom

Andy Hom, MS, OTR/L is a New York State Licensed Occupational Therapist and received his Masters of Science in Occupational Therapy from Stony Brook University. Andy started his passion for hand thera py as a fieldwork student studying under Christine Rodriguez, MS, OTR/L, CHT, CLT-UE. During his fieldwork rotation, Andy had an opportunity to perform assessments, treat and create intervention plans for clients with a variety of upper extremity diagnoses ranging from fractures, tendon repairs, nerve injuries, and neurological conditions. From this experience, Andy realized he wanted to focus on hand therapy and help those with different upper extremity disorders. Shortly after finishing his fieldwork rotation, Andy joined the Cynergy team as a rehabilitation aide and eventually, as a staff Occupational therapist. Andy is excited to work with the Cynergy team and continually strives to increase his knowledge on how to use evidence based practice to best guide his interventions. Andy has worked with children and adults with developmental disabilities, disability services in higher education, The Veteran's Affair Hospital and outpatient clinics, which have all influenced in how he approaches therapy. Andy has a passion for exemplifying the core values of Occupational Therapy and believes that one-on-one therapy is the best approach to providing client-centered practice in order for patients to achieve their optimal performance. Andy's favorite part about hand therapy is splinting because each patient receives custom splints uniquely made for them. Splinting allows him to be creative and he approaches each one as if it was an art project. Andy's goal as a hand therapist is to help patients increase their functional performance in order to participate in all the activities they enjoy. On his off time, Andy enjoys trying new restaurants with his family and his favorite type of food is sushi. Andy has recently caught the travel bug and has a goal to visit 2 new countries every year. He also likes to cook/bake and if you're lucky, you may catch him on a day where he brings in treats for everyone at the office!
