We develop methods to elucidate the biosynthesis of natural products in plants and insects. These tools help us to understand the fundamental chemical, biological and evolutionary processes that give rise to these complex molecules. Since many of these natural products have pharmaceutical or biotechnological value, we are developing biological platforms that enable the inexpensive and rapid production of these substances... The O'Connor group studies plant natural product biosynthesis, including alkaloids and iridoids.
