MAYFLOWER

This is the South Dakota chapter of the Mayflower Society was the 47th State Society and was chartered on October 20, 1956. The Charter membership group of 60 was the largest of any to form a Society since the General Society was founded in 1897... In 1620 the group of 102 passengers who crowded aboard the Mayflower for the crossing were not from the same village, or from the same church or families. Many of the passengers were members of the Leiden congregation, but they were joined by a number of English families or individuals who were hoping to better their life situations or were seeking financial gain.
