Mr. Berard has practiced intellectual property law for over thirty-five years involving patents, copyrights, trade secrets, and trademarks in a corporate practice. He has particular experience in patents, patent prosecution, commercial and licensing transactions, and in counseling clients regarding intellectual property matters. He has handled patent matters involving electrical, mechanical, medical and computer-related subject matter, as well as the copyright of computer software and inter parties patent matters in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He has counseled regarding domestic and international commercial and licensing transactions, including U.S. Government contracts, and has drafted and negotiated the necessary agreements. Prior to his retirement from Lockheed Martin Corporation, he was Associate General Counsel-Intellectual Property, Group Patent Counsel and Division Patent Counsel for Lockheed Martin Corporation and its predecessors, Martin Marietta Corporation, General Electric Company, and RCA Corporation.
Mr. Berard received his Bachelor of Science degree from Polytechnic University (New York) and his Master of Science degree from Drexel University, both in electrical engineering. While at Polytechnic University, Mr. Berard was inducted into Eta Kappa Nu, the electrical engineering honor society. He was awarded the Juris Doctor degree, summa cum laude, from the New York Law School, where he also was awarded the Trustees Prize (Highest Average), the Tormey Award and several American Jurisprudence awards.
Mr. Berard is admitted to practice in New Jersey and before the US Patent and Trademark Office, and and is active in professional organizations. He is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers and is an inventor in six US Patents. In addition, Mr. Berard authored an article on Patent Laws: Suppression and Concealment Through Inaction…, published in the New York Law School Law Review and has been a speaker on intellectual property topics before various intellectual property organizations.
Mr. Piper maintains a diverse practice in the field of intellectual property law. Mr. Piper has extensive experience in the prosecution of patent applications in the mechanical, electrical, medical and computer technology fields. In addition, Mr. Piper has successfully litigated patent, trademark, copyright and unfair competition cases in Federal Court and has represented clients in inter partes trademark proceedings conducted before the Patent and Trademark Office. He also has prepared and negotiated licensing agreements covering all aspects of intellectual property rights.
Mr. Piper received his Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering, with distinction, from Cornell University in 1977. At Cornell, he was inducted into the honorary engineering societies Tau Beta Pi and Eta Kappa Nu. Mr. Piper received his J.D. degree, cum laude, from the University of Pittsburgh in 1980. He served on the University of Pittsburgh Law Review and was elected as a member of the Order of the Coif, an honorary scholastic legal society. Mr. Piper has served as President of the Philadelphia Intellectual Property Law Association. He has also served as Vice President and Treasurer of the Association and as Chairman of the Trademark, Copyright and Unfair Competition Committee.
Mr. Piper has presented numerous lectures and has authored a number of papers on diverse aspects of intellectual property law. At a recent seminar of the Pennsylvania Bar Institute, Mr. Piper lectured on the topic entitled "Protecting Intellectual Property Rights." Additional topics presented by Mr. Piper include "Proving Invalidity for Inventions On Sale and/or in Public Use," the Uniform Trade Secrets Act, and issues relating to Continuation-in-Part patent applications.

With a background in protecting a broad spectrum of optical, medical, semi-conductor, mechanical, electrical, and computer-related innovations, Dr. Niels Haun is increasingly being sought out for his focus on patent protection related to optical technologies and the uncommon combination of experiences, skills, and judgment that he brings to this field.
Dr. Haun often works with Universities and private corporations who rely heavily upon the optical technologies they develop to enhance their reputation and future revenue streams. Typically, clients turn to Dr. Haun on an ongoing basis for patent drafting and prosecution; advice on patenting strategies to achieve desired business outcomes; advice concerning the business impact of patent related issues; defense of patents in contested proceedings before the patent offices and courts of the U.S. and foreign jurisdictions; the greater speed and depth of technical knowledge related to the patenting process; and, the manner in which he makes the entire patenting process as easy as possible for all parties involved.
Dr. Haun has spent much time preparing for this level of expertise. Dr. Haun received his Bachelor of Electrical Engineering with concentration in Solid State Physics from Villanova University, magna cum laude, and a M.S. and a Ph.D. in Optics from the University of Rochester. Dr. Haun received his J.D. from Temple University, magna cum laude. Dr. Haun also brings to his clients the creativity of an inventor (including three patents to his name) and the business knowledge attained through his corporate work in technology research leading to revenue producing technological innovations.
Dr. Haun is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar and is admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Dr. Netter joined Dann Dorfman Herrell and Skillman in 2002. He has experience in all areas of chemical and life science patent law including biochemical, pharmaceutical, oncology, immunology, agriculture, genomics, virology, and all other cellular and molecular biology related fields.
Dr. Netter is primarily involved in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications in the United States and throughout the world. His clients include small to mid-sized biotechnology companies and universities across the United States and abroad. In addition to patent procurement, Dr. Netter is experienced in providing patentability, freedom-to-operate, infringement, and invalidity opinions. Dr. Netter is also skilled at assisting his clients with management of their intellectual property portfolio and providing strategic guidance.
Dr. Netter earned a B.S. in Biochemistry with Honors from Pennsylvania State University in 1997 and a Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology from University of Pennsylvania in 2002. He received his J.D. from Temple University School of Law in 2007. Dr. Netter is admitted to practice in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey and has been registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office since 2005. He is a member of the Pennsylvania and American Bar Associations, the American and Philadelphia Intellectual Property Law Associations and the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM).
Mr. Herrell has had a general intellectual property law practice for over forty years in all aspects of patent, trademark and copyright law, as well as the trade secret and unfair competition fields. He has handled litigation in the federal courts and licensing matters and has also handled numerous inter partes patent and trademark proceedings in the Patent and Trademark Office. Mr. Herrell‘s lawsuits have involved electrical, mechanical, chemical and trade secret subject matter, as well as trademarks and copyrights, including litigation concerning counterfeit and gray market goods. Mr. Herrell has also acted as a consultant and has been an expert witness in a number of intellectual property lawsuits.
Mr. Herrell received his electrical engineering degree from the University of Virginia and his law degree from the University of Virginia.
Mr. Herrell is admitted to practice in Virginia and Pennsylvania and is active in legal related activities in Pennsylvania and nationally. He was a Delegate of the House of Delegates of the Pennsylvania Bar Association for fifteen years and was a member of the special Disciplinary Board Study Committee of the Pennsylvania Bar Association. Mr. Herrell is a past Chairman of the Economics Committee of the Intellectual Property Law Section of the American Bar Association, past Chairman of the Economics Committee of the Philadelphia Bar Association, a past Councilman of the National Council of Intellectual Property Law Associations, and has served several times as a member of the Board of Governors of the Philadelphia Intellectual Property Law Association.
Mr. Herrell has been honored to be designated in The Best Lawyers in America and honored to be designated as a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer in the area of Intellectual Property Law, both of which are designations based on polls of lawyers. Mr. Herrell has also been listed in Who's Who in American Law and International Who's Who.
In addition to his other activities, Mr. Herrell co-authored an article on "Concurrent Use and Registration Rights", published in the Journal of the American Patent Law Association, Vol. II, Issue No. 3, and has been a speaker on intellectual property law topics before professional and university groups.

Vincent T. Pace is involved primarily in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications in the following technical fields: electrical and electronics engineering, mechanical engineering; metallurgical products, processes, and processing equipment; and engineered materials. He has represented clients in patent interference and reexamination proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Mr. Pace also has substantial experience in prosecuting patent applications in various foreign countries, particularly in the European Patent Office and in Japan. He has also represented clients in patent opposition proceedings in foreign countries. Mr. Pace is involved in the preparation and prosecution of trademark registrations and has represented clients in trademark opposition proceedings in the U.S. and in foreign countries. He counsels clients on questions relating to U.S. patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. Mr. Pace has represented clients in patent and copyright infringement litigation.
Mr. Pace is a 1971 graduate of Worcester Polytechnic Institute where he received the Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (B.S.E.E.). He received the Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (M.S.E.E.) from Drexel University in 1976 and the Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from Temple University Law School in 1982. He has been admitted to practice law in Pennsylvania and New Jersey since 1982. He has been registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office since 1983.
Prior to his association with the firm of Dann Dorfman Herrell and Skillman in Philadelphia, Mr. Pace was employed as an electrical engineer with the Philadelphia Electric Company and as a Patent Advisor in the Office of Naval Research, Department of the Navy.
Mr. Pace is a member of the Pennsylvania and Philadelphia Bar Associations, as well as the American and Philadelphia Intellectual Property Law Associations. He is also a member of the American Society for Metals.
