Brian Bird

Brian has spent more than a decade in the energy industry, holding leadership positions with Australian energy retailers, networks and energy solutions businesses across operations, product development, program delivery and sales. Brian has led innovation teams bringing to market a diverse range of projects including virtual power plants, commercial battery deployments, demand response and energy-as-a-service. Prior to joining Generac he was focused on business development of in-front-of-the-meter energy projects including utility-scale solar and BESS and their technical and commercial evaluation level including incorporation of wholesale valuations. Brian has a BSC Hons. degree in natural sciences from Durham University and a MRes in advanced instrumentation systems from University College London. Outside of work, Brian coaches a local soccer team, enjoys cycling and is an avid cook; enjoying entertaining for family and friends.

Eric Young

Eric is responsible for the design and approach of Generac Grid Services' distributed energy management system and develops new innovations for demand optimization. An expert in assisting organizations manage change, Eric spent nearly 20 years helping utilities worldwide make sense of digital disruption through technologies such as smart metering, asset optimization, demand management, volt/VAR control and electric curtailment programs as a leader at IBM and ABS Group. He received dual degrees in electrical engineering and engineering and computer science from the University of Pittsburgh. He balances his hyper-technical work with fine woodworking creations, landscape photography and home automation control. Generac Grid Services VP of Industry Solutions, Eric Young, speaks with Guidehouse Insights about the Concerto platform, its applications in Europe and our global product vision.

Gavin Hume

As Generac Grid Services' second employee, Gavin has spent more than 15 years exploring the interface between technology and business opportunity. Before moving into operations, Gavin oversaw network operations and utility solutions. Today, he oversees recruitment, project management and platform operations, as well as customer support and platform operations. He has significant experience in DERMS and demand response program development and implementation. Gavin has worked directly with utility customers around the world, lending his expertise to help build new programs and drive their success with strategic vendor selection, integrations and KPI-setting. Gavin spends much of his time outdoors with his two sons skiing, mountain biking and kiteboarding.

James Carr - President

James' 20-plus year career as an entrepreneur and corporate development professional has taken him to the worlds of consulting and investment banking, as well as to social impact and sustainability startups. His extensive resume includes stints as senior vice president of mergers and acquisitions at Morgan Stanley, as a consultant with LEK Consulting and as CFO and corporate development lead for a healthcare company that successfully sold to a private equity firm. Before taking the helm as president at Generac Grid Services, he served as its CFO. In his free time, James loves to be outside playing virtually any sport-when he's not driving his kids to their games.

Jessie Peters

As a technological optimist, Jessie contributes to conversations about how to develop cleaner, smarter energy grids in our accelerating world. Learning Concerto from the inside out, Jessie started as Generac Grid Services' product marketing manager, she now leads Generac Grid Services' marketing strategy and initiatives to accelerate the integration and optimization of clean, distributed energy resources. In her role, she raises brand awareness, oversees technical product marketing efforts and coordinates presence at industry events. Prior to joining Generac Grid Services, Jessie led Virtual Power Plant and demand response research at Guidehouse Insights. When not working to help decarbonize the planet, Jessie is a yoga instructor and jokes that she works with electrons by day and a more subtle form of energy at night.

Josh Keeling

Josh proactively engages partners, projects and communities to drive the transition to distributed energy resources. He leads the team supporting go-to-market regulatory and policy strategy development across Generac Grid Services. He previously held leadership roles in product development, strategy and planning at Portland General Electric, Cadeo, LO3 Energy and the Cadmus Group. Josh is a thought leader in DER integration, having developed several industry-leading programs in distributed flexibility, and is often asked to speak about his work. He received his BS in economics and MS/PhD ABD in systems science at Portland State University, where he is now an adjunct professor. He is a voting member of Regional Technical Forum, faculty for RMI's eLab Initiative, and an active contributor in various standard making bodies around grid integration and flexible loads. When he's not working he spends his time being chased by wild children, having his heartbroken by the Trail Blazers, and finding new ways to break his ebike.

Leah Driscoll

Leah leads the team responsible for all financial reporting and accounting areas of the business, including tax and legal requirements. Prior to joining Generac Grid Services, Leah spent more than ten years in the software and technology industry working with various teams in public accounting, tech startups and publicly traded acquisitions. Leah received a BS in Accounting from the University of Northern Iowa and currently holds an active CPA license in the state of Colorado. She is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Colorado Society of CPAs and serves as a board member of the Greenhouse Residences homeowner's association. In her free time, Leah enjoys hot yoga, running 5ks and being outside with her daughter and chow chow.

Malcolm Metcalfe - Founder

Malcolm founded Enbala, now Generac Grid Services, in 2000 with a mission to reduce energy costs, greenhouse gas emissions and energy use. He spent thirteen years as the company's CTO before moving to lead research efforts. An electrical engineer with more than 50 years of experience in the energy industry, Malcolm has BASc and MASc degrees in electrical engineering, the latter focused on power system stability, from the University of British Columbia. Over the course of his career, Malcolm has received myriad awards, including being named a Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order by HM Queen Elizabeth II for his charity work and receiving the Medal of Distinction from the dean of engineering at UBC. He holds more than 20 patents granted or pending and teaches university courses in energy transition and power system analysis. Malcolm spent 60 years flying airplanes, and now takes to the air in a new way-via ham radio, which he uses to speak to friends in Australia most mornings.

Michael Goldman

Michael has 15 years of experience in management consulting and the energy industry. At Generac Grid Services, he identifies macroeconomic and regulatory trends in the energy industry and translates them into actionable business insights for senior executives. Michael regularly speaks about his work and contributes to industry publications. Prior to his current role, he spent nearly ten years at Eversource Energy, the largest utility in New England, where he led the regulatory and strategic direction of the company's behind-the-meter peak load reduction programs. Michael holds a BA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and an MA in international economics and energy policy from the Johns Hopkins University. Michael's travels have taken him to 31 countries and counting. He's been to five continents and aims to one day reach all seven.

Michael Ruth

Mike leads our product strategy and product teams to develop and deliver the grid services that will drive the adoption of renewable and distributed energy resources. Building compelling software solutions in complex markets has been his passion (and his day job) for more than 30 years - the last 15 of which in the Energy space. Over the course of his career in semiconductor fabrication, embedded software technologies, and now energy markets, he's built and led product teams for successful startups like Enbala and Tendril, introduced new products in new markets globally while at KLA-Tencor and WindRiver, and focused product marketing strategy, positioning and campaigns for leading companies like Zayo, ABB, Centerpointe and Aclara. He received an MSE in computer engineering from Santa Clara University. When not on the clock or spending time with his family, he can be found hiking, enjoying fine food and driving very fast cars on race tracks.

Tom Stacy

With over 20 years of transformational leadership experience in cloud-based solutions, software development and company team building, Tom leads Generac Grid Services' software engineering group. An expert at building bridges across organizations, he is dedicated to cultivating and empowering a highly engaged engineering culture to produce positive outcomes. Before joining Generac Grid Services, Tom spent time as a startup co-founder, an engineering VP and chief development officer. He holds a degree in information systems from the University of Colorado, Boulder. Off the job, Tom enjoys the challenges posed by golfing and water and snow skiing, as well as the calming benefits of hiking in the Colorado wilderness.
