Jim's experience has spanned all phases of venture capital from seed and early stage investments to later stage and secondaries in venture-backed companies and portfolios. Along the way he has invested over $175M of primary and secondary capital in industry leading companies and driven a top-quartile return for investors for over a decade. Prior to HighGear Ventures, Jim was a Venture Partner with Industry Ventures, a leading venture capital secondary firm providing structured flexible liquidity solutions for entrepreneurs, venture capitalists and limited partners. Prior to Industry Ventures, Jim was a founding Managing Director with Scale Venture Partners driving investments in industry leading companies in enterprise software, datacenter applications and infrastructure, semiconductors, and telecom services, software and infrastructure. Prior to Scale Venture Partners, Jim led product management, product marketing and business development groups at 3Com Corporation, where he managed a diverse $1.2B enterprise and consumer product line. Prior to 3Com, Jim worked in integrated circuit development and marketing with National Semiconductor, focusing on analog power management, FDDI, and Ethernet controller and transceiver solutions. Jim also holds board seats with outstanding non-profit organizations including The Hearing and Speech Center of Northern California and United Policyholders. Jim holds a BSEE from the University of California, Davis.
