In late 1999 Te Whare Oranga Wairua Inc (Taupo) established a refuge and social support services for whānau in Taupo Tūwharetoa rohe. In late 2012 the approach was made to Te Whare Oranga Wairua from the National Office of Nga Whare Whakaruruhau O Aotearoa to deliver service in Ngati Kahungunu as the existing provider had relinquished their approval.
