Tamara has been with the NEC since 2011 as the Program Coordinator of Indigenous Justice Studies. She is a Cree woman from Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation. She completed a Master of Laws degree at the University of Saskatchewan and has recently released a book Suffer the Little Children: Genocide, Indigenous Nations and the Canadian State. Tamara's remarkable educational journey included a certificate in public administration from the NEC in 1996. In addition to being a genocide scholar, Tamara is an expert in developing post-secondary education to take an Indigenous standpoint and to build the national identities of the original nations on Turtle Island.
Tammy Harkey is a successful educator with 10+ years of expertise supporting First Nations across the country develop and implement culturally relevant programming that supports Aboriginal learners. She is passionate about ensuring that learners have the support they need in order to achieve their maximum potential in society.
She serves on the Dogwood 25 Board of Directors, the Indigenous Adult and Higher Learning Association Board of Governors, and the Simon Fraser University Aboriginal Steering Committee.
