MAZWI HOLISTIC INSTITUTE - Key Persons

Angel Sekelaga Mazwi - Founder

Job Titles:
  • Executive Director
  • Founder
Mr. Mazwi found meditation in 1986. In the beginning he could find very little instruction and muddled through on his own until direct mentorship and transmission from Al-duha Chase in 1996 until his passing. After which he sought out the Kadampa Center of Maryland and moved on to the Baltimore Shambhala Centre to learn even more. Meditation and mindfulness practices have been integral to his life and work as a healer, wellness guide and change agent. When there was an opportunity to become the executive director of Echohouse Multiservice Center, Inc, (Echohouse) he tossed his hat into the ring. He was contracted as executive director in 2016. In 2016 the idea for a holistic approach to drug treatment was born and the idea for MHI started to take form. MHI was formed in 2019. Mr. Mazwi began providing mindfulness meditation instruction to his clients since 2016 and their responses were astonishing. So many clients left individual and group sessions feeling more at peace and reported greater life satisfaction. There was no turning back. People were experiencing phenomenal changes in themselves and their out-look on their lives was enhanced. Many more were able to overcome their substance use and abuse and were able to beat physical dependence to opioids, alcohol and benzodiazepenes. He believes in the person as a whole being and not a diagnosis. "We are mind, body and spirit. For change to take hold, each aspect of the person must heal". As a practitioner and teacher of meditation, mindfulness meditation, mantra meditation, and breathwork he will apply these elements to substance use disorder treatment at MHI.
