Alexis von Sydow

Job Titles:

Alexis has a Master's degree in Chinese from Stockholm University and have studied political science at the Swedish Defence University. He has a background as a translator from Chinese and lived in China for eight years. At NKK, Alexis' areas of expertise include China's foreign policy (including Taiwan) as well as issues of security and influence.

Björn Jerdén

Job Titles:

Björn has a PhD in Political Science from Stockholm University and a master's degree in International Relations from Malmö University. He has been a visiting fellow at National Chengchi University, National Taiwan University, National Chengkung University and Harvard University. From 2016 to 2020, Björn was the head of the Asia Programme at the Swedish Institute of International Affairs.

Erik Mo Welin

Job Titles:

Erik has a PhD in Sinology from Uppsala University. In his dissertation he focused on the relationship between temporality and politics in contemporary Chinese science fiction. He has a double master's degree in Chinese Studies from Stockholm University and Zhejiang University and a double bachelor's degree in Chinese Studies and English Literature and Linguistics from Stockholm University. He has lived a total of six years in China where he has worked as a translator and interned at the Swedish Embassy in Beijing.

Erik Mollestam

Erik Mollestam has a bachelor's degree in Development Studies with a major in economic history from Lund University and a master's degree in Russian and Eurasian Studies from Uppsala University. Before joining UI, he has been an intern at the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs. Erik is also Programme Manager at the Asia Programme at UI.

Erika Staffas Edström

Erika has spent more than seven years in China and has worked at the Swedish Embassy in Beijing and the Swedish Chamber of Commerce in China. She has a bachelor's degree in Politics and Economics from Lund University and has also studied at Beijing Language and Culture University and Yunnan Normal University.

Esther Serger

Esther has a bachelor's degree in Politics and International Relations with a focus on China from SOAS University of London. During her studies, she focused mainly on China's foreign policy and the geopolitical implications of new technologies. Esther has previously been an intern on the Asia program at the European Council on Foreign Relations in Berlin.

Frida Lindberg

Frida has two master's degrees from Uppsala University: one in Political Science and the other in Chinese. She has previously worked as a Junior Research Fellow at the Institute for Security and Development Policy in Stockholm. During her studies, Frida focused mainly on China's foreign policy and the Chinese media. She has also interned at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Department for Asia and the Pacific Region.

Gustav Sundqvist

Gustav works part-time as an analyst at the Swedish National China Centre and part-time as a lecturer in political science at Mälardalen University. In his research, Gustav so far has focused on Chinese politics, labour market issues and democracy issues. In 2019, he defended his dissertation on democratic diffusion in China at Åbo Akademi University in Finland. Gustav has also worked as a Chinese-speaking consultant for several Swedish trade unions.

Hanna Carlsson

Linus Hagström

Linus Hagström is Professor of Political Science at the Swedish Defence University and was previously East Asia Programme Director at the Swedish Institute of International Affairs. He is an editorial board member of several journals, including Pacific Affairs, Journal of Peace and War Studies, and Bristol University Press' East Asian International Relations series. Hagström's research focuses on identity, power, and international security with an emphasis on East Asian international politics. At the Swedish National China Centre, Hagström works within the project "ReConnect China".

Miriam Tardell

From 2014 to 2018, Miriam worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Sweden's embassies in Beijing and Tokyo. Patrik Andersson

His thesis examined how China's foreign policy priorities and demand for different minerals and raw materials shape the decisions and approaches of Chinese mining companies in the Arctic. Perry Johansson is a Stockholm University associate professor and doctor of philosophy. His research has mainly dealt with China's actual and imaginary relations with the West. Still at the intersection between culture, politics, and psychology he is now finishing two major projects on communist influence campaigns against Sweden during the Cold War. Johansson has worked at some of the world's leading universities and lived for a total of fifteen years in East Asia, mainly in Hong Kong.

Viking Bohman

Viking Bohman is pursuing a PhD degree at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University. He researches the practice of economic statecraft -- the use of economic measures to achieve foreign policy objectives -- with a special focus on Chinese foreign policy. Viking has worked at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Stockholm, at the Swedish Embassy in Beijing, and on the Swedish Institute of International Affairs' Asia Programme. He completed the Diplomatic Training Programme of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 2021. Viking has a double master's degree in International Affairs from the London School of Economics (LSE) and Peking University.
