Mr Brown is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and an Honary Associate Professor at the University of Liverpool. He specialises in surgery to the wrist and hand, as well as to trauma to the upper limb. He has a particular interest in the management of patients with wrist trauma and the complications arising from wrist trauma. He also has an interest in treating arthritis of the wrist and hand and performs many small joint and wrist replacements. In addition, he has extensive experience in dealing with all aspect of hand surgery, including carpal tunnel, trigger fingers, Dupuytren's disease and arthroscopic surgery.
Mr Brown leads a strong multi-disciplinary team in all the hospitals where he practices and works closely with Hand Therapists, Specialist Nurses, Radiologists, Neurophysiologists and Pathologists.
As well as being a founding partner of the Bone & Joint Centre, located at Spire Liverpool Hospital, Mr Brown works in the Liverpool Upper Limb Unit at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where he is also the Clinical Lead of the hand unit.
Mr Brown is an elected member of council and a trustee of The British Society for Surgery to the Hand. He holds a Master's Degree in Clinical Education, awarded with distinction and also holds a Post-Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Clinical Practice, also awarded with distinction. He works as a consultant for Acumed, an American company who specialise in the design and manufacture of upper limb trauma implants, and Swemac, a Swedish company who have developed an innovative wrist replacement.
Mr Brown has a significant research interest and has published many papers in major peer reviewed journals in the fields of hand surgery, trauma and medical education. He has set up and run several randomized trials and participates in the evaluation of new and innovative trauma implants. He has also presented this work at major international orthopaedic conferences, where the work has been awarded prizes and commendations. He has co-edited 2 books and has written several book chapters. He regularly acts as a reviewer for the Journal of Hand Surgery.
Mr Brown regularly is invited to teach, both nationally and internationally, on various aspects of wrist and hand surgery, most particularly the management of distal radius fractures. He has given invited lectures to The British Hand Society, The British Orthopaedic Society, The International Orthopaedic Congress and The International Federation of Societies for Surgery to The Hand.
Mr Brown, graduated from The University of Manchester in 1992, and underwent post-graduate training in Manchester and Merseyside, He subsequently undertook a fellowship in Hand Surgery with the Plastic Surgical Hand Unit at Whiston Hospital before being appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in 2003. He is a Fellow of The Royal College of Surgeons of England, a member of The British Orthopaedic Association and The British Society for Surgery to the Hand.
Mr Brown is married with two daughters; he enjoys cooking and fine wine. When not working he enjoys skiing, travelling and has a keen interest in photography.

Mr Davidson is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospital NHS Trust where he specialises in treating patients with arthritic hips and knees. He has a special interest in treating complex primary and revision knee replacements. He also specialises in joint replacements for the younger patients and performs more than 200 joint replacements a year in both the NHS and private sector.
Mr Davidson studied for his medical degree in Glasgow and subsequently completed his training in Edinburgh, Birmingham and Liverpool. He undertook a Fellowship in Sydney Australia and had the opportunity to be a visiting Fellow in several joint replacement units in Australia, USA and Europe. He completed his training at Wrightington Hospital in the Arthroplasty Unit (Hip and Knee replacement).
He was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in Liverpool in 2001 and was invited to take up an additional role of Clinical Director in 2005.
Mr Davidson is the founder of, and Chairman of the Bone and Joint Centre.
Mr Davidson is frequently invited to talk about his work both nationally and internationally on joint replacement surgery; minimally invasive surgery; management of the younger patient; and new materials and joint replacement techniques.
He was a founder of the Liverpool Bone and Joint Infection Group and has been invited to speak internationally on the management of infected joint replacements. This has resulted in writing a book chapter on the surgical treatment of infected joint replacement with a specialised hydro scalpel tool.
Professor Mason qualified from the University of Wales College of Medicine, completing his orthopaedic training in Wales before moving to Liverpool as a consultant specialising in Major trauma and foot and ankle surgery.
Before joining Liverpool University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Professor Mason completed British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society travelling fellowships in the University of Utah, Salt Lake City and Carl Gustav Carus University, Dresden, Germany. In Liverpool, Professor Mason obtained the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society Gold Fellowship Award.
Professor Mason's pioneering research has become nationally and internationally recognised, winning 24 national and international prizes in the last 9 years. He ahs been awarded the Hunterian Professorship from the Royal College of Surgeons in 202 for his work on ankle fractures, the Robert Jones gold medal and Association prize in 2017 for his work on the evolution of the foot and the Jaques Duparc prize from EFFORT for his work on discovery of a new foot ligament. Professor Mason has won the Chan Chen memorial prize, the highest award from the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society on 3 separate occasions. IN 2023, Professor mason achieved a National Clinical Impact Award Level 1 for contribution to safe and high quality care and improvement of NHS Services.
Professor Mason is a Honorary Associate Professor at the University of Liverpool, where he is the undergraduate lead in Musculoskeletal disease and Orthopaedics for the School of Medicine. Furthermore, Professor Mason is a respected National educator, as an invited faculty member for courses by the British Orthopaedic Association, Royal College of Surgeons and British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society.
Professor Mason previously sat on the council for the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society as the Clinical Practice Committee Chair, taking responsibility for the National Foot and Ankle registry. Professor Mason is still co-opted to the committee in his role working with NHS England
Mr Smith undertook his basic surgical training in the Manchester area and Specialist Registrar training on the North West Rotation. During his Specialist Registrar training he gained a diploma in Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation Technology (Dundee University, passed with Merit). After passing the FRCS (Tr & Orth) exam in 2006, and becoming a Fellow of The Royal College of Surgeons of England, he specialised in Upper Limb Surgery by undertaking 3 fellowship posts. The Fellowship posts in Wrightington Hospital and The University of Lancashire Teaching Hospitals (Preston and Chorley) were completed prior to the completion of his training and award of Certificate of Completion of Training leading to entrance to General Medical Council's Specialist Register.
He delayed taking up a consultant post by undertaking Peter Brownson's fellowship within The Liverpool Upper Limb Unit and was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at The Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust in July 2009, taking up post as a Specialist Shoulder and Elbow Surgeon within the Liverpool Upper limb Unit.
He specialises in both arthroscopic (keyhole) and open surgery of the shoulder and elbow with strong emphasis on shoulder and elbow trauma and also provides Carpal Tunnel Release surgery.
He has been working with the team at Spire Liverpool since September 2009. Mr Smith maintains active research interests looking into a variety of shoulder and elbow conditions having published in peer reviewed journals. He is the course director for a national clinical examination course and teaches/lectures at a number of other national and international courses.

Mr Alasdair Santini is a Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedics at The Royal Liverpool University and Broadgreen Hospitals where he specialises in knee replacements, revision knee replacements, partial knee replacements, hip replacements and knee arthroscopy.
Mr Santini studied at the University of Sheffield where he gained his primary medical qualification (MB ChB). Following his basic surgical training in Sheffield he was awarded his surgical fellowships from the Royal Colleges in both Glasgow and England (FRCSGlasg & FRCSEng). His higher surgical training was gained in the North West region. Subsequently he achieved the specialist fellowship in Trauma and Orthopaedics (FRCS Trauma & Orth) and then won a Royal College travelling fellowship to St Louis, USA.
Mr Santini became a consultant at the Royal Liverpool & Broadgreen University Hospital in 2005 where he specialises in primary and revision knee replacement, knee arthroscopy and hip replacement.
He is the orthopaedic clinical lead in infection control and prevention, having previously had a similar role in clinical audit. He is the lead clinician for the lower limb sub-directorate.
Mr Santini was instrumental in re-designing the then Core Skills Course in Orthopaedics at the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He chairs the organising committee and wrote and edited the accompanying book and DVD. Now under the name Specialist Skills in Orthopaedics, the course is run in five centres across the UK and this year, Mr Santini ran the first international course in Dubai. A similar course is planned for India in 2011.
He has an on-going research interest, having won over £30,000 in grants to run clinical trials in knee surgery. The results of these have been presented both nationally and internationally. He also lectures both nationally and internationally on knee surgery.
In 2008, he founded the Grosvenor Orthopaedic Club to promote education and research for hip and knee surgeons in Cheshire and Merseyside. The club meets four times a year and have been joined by a variety of international guest speakers.
He was recently honoured to be appointed as Treasurer of The British Association for Surgery of The Knee (BASK) and takes up his role immediately.
Mr Santini was a keen fencer, captaining the University team but more recently enjoys skiing, scuba diving, hill climbing and following Scotland's rugby internationals as a lifetime seat holder at Murrayfield.
Mr Anjani Singh is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in foot and ankle disorders and managing acute general foot and ankle trauma at the Royal Liverpool and Broad green University Hospital NHS Trust since March 2013.
Mr Singh graduated from Gulbarga University in India, in 1996. His basic surgical training was undertaken in various centres in UK. He completed his higher surgical training from Newcastle deanery in the North East of England, gaining the higher surgical degree in Trauma & Orthopaedics.
He also completed a dedicated nationally recognised fellowship in Foot & Ankle surgery at Glasgow and was appointed as a consultant in 2013.
Mr Singh has presented papers in international forums and has published on complex ankle and foot disorders in peer reviewed journals. He is a keen teacher and is also the lead for undergraduate training in Trauma & Orthopaedics.
Having completed my orthopaedic and trauma training and fellowships in some of the prestigious centres in the world, including Charnley arthroplasty centre at Wrightington, Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital Stanmore, University College London Hospital and Royal Bournemouth Hospital, I have gained in depth knowledge, skills and experience in modern concepts and techniques in trauma and orthopaedic surgery.
Mr Sanjay Kalra has been a Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedic surgery since 2011. He completed his undergraduate medical training at Jesus College, University of Cambridge in 1999. His basic surgical training was based at the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham. He completed this in 2004 and was awarded Memebership of the The Royal College of Surgeons of England.
He returned to Cambridge for his Higher Surgical training in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery and in 2009 and became a Fellow of the The Royal College of Surgeons. He completed his training in Trauma and Orthopaedic surgery in 2010 and was subsequently awarded a place on the General Medical Council's Specialist Register
In 2010-2011, he worked in Vancouver, Canada as a Fellow in Orthopaedic Trauma surgery to gain specialist training in complex trauma.
He specialises in general Lower Limb surgery and complex trauma. He has a specialist interest in Hip and Knee replacements, Knee arthroscopy and soft tissue knee injuries.

Mrs Joanne Banks is a Consultant Orthopaedic & Trauma Surgeon at The Royal Liverpool & Broadgreen University Hospitals, where she specialises in knee surgery and in particular arthroscopic/sports injuries. She graduated from the University of Liverpool in 1997 and gained higher surgical training before receiving an MSc in Orthopaedic Engineering from the University of Cardiff in 2006. She is a fellow the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and passed the intercollegiate exam in Orthopaedics and Trauma (FRCS Tr & Orth) in 2008, gaining entry to the specialist register in orthopaedics in February 2009.
Mrs Banks is a member of the British Medical Association, British Orthopaedic Association, British Association for Surgery of the Knee, and of the 2020 Group which is a national group of specialist knee surgeons. She is Educational Supervisor for the higher surgical trainees in the Royal Liverpool & Broadgreen Hospitals and organises the Medical Student orthopaedic teaching programme.
She regularly teaches Advanced Trauma Life Support, Advanced Life Support, and Basic Surgical Skills around the country. In addition she is a member of the event medical team for the British Judo Association and has been an active member of St John Ambulance for over 20 years.

Mr Carter is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in Hip and Knee Replacements, and Knee arthroscopy (keyhole surgery). His NHS practice consists of Hip and Knee Surgery, including revision and complex Hip replacements. He practices orthopaedic trauma surgery at a Major Trauma Centre.
Mr Carter graduated with distinction from Newcastle-upon-Tyne Medical School in 1994. He remained in Newcastle for basic Surgical training. He moved to the Mersey region in 2000 to complete his specialist training in orthopaedic surgery. Mr Carter is fellowship trained in Hip and Knee surgery, and Trauma Surgery. He completed Fellowships both in the UK and USA.
Mr Carter was appointed as a Consultant at Aintree University Hospitals in 2006. He is now employed at Liverpool University Hospitals after the Liverpool Hospitals Merger in November 2019.
Mr Carter attends and contributes to the weekly ‘Complex Arthroplasty Meeting' at Broadgreen Hospital where the region's most challenging Hip and Knee conditions are discussed and treatment plans made. His NHS planned treatment practice is at Broadgreen Hospital.
He contributes to the Orthopaedic Trauma System at Aintree Hospital (Major Trauma Centre site). He undertakes regular trauma clinics and trauma operating.
Mr Carter teaches all grades of junior doctors regularly and is a clinical supervisor / assessor. He interviews for Liverpool Medical Schools and the National Orthopaedic Registrar appointments (where surgeons are selected for specialist orthopaedic training). He is an examiner for the FRCS(Tr&Orth) exams - the final specialist exam before consultant appointment.
Mr Carter was Clinical Director for Trauma and Orthopaedic surgery at Aintree Hospital for 5 years. This time saw the introduction of the Major Trauma Centre and a large expansion of the department. For 3 years he was Orthopaedic lead at Aintree planning and overseeing the merger of the Orthopaedic departments across Liverpool. A successful Merger was completed in November 2019.
Mr Carter has sat on several National Committees concerning improvements in Trauma and Orthopaedic care in the UK. He was on the British Orthopaedic Clinical Directors Committee for 5 years. He was the North West Representative for the national specialised orthopaedic services reconfiguration between 2013 - 17.
Mr Carter leads research and audit projects. He has published several papers in peer reviewed journals and presented at national and international orthopaedic meetings.

Mr. Parmar is a highly skilled consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in upper limb (arm) surgery. With expertise in trauma, joint replacement, sports injuries, and arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery, he offers comprehensive care for a wide range of upper limb conditions.
Having graduated from the University of Manchester in 2000, Mr. Parmar underwent rigorous postgraduate training in Manchester and Stoke before gaining valuable experience in Sydney, Australia. Subsequently, he completed his training in the North West of England, obtained his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2010, and joined the Specialist Register in 2014.
Recognised for his exceptional abilities, Mr. Parmar was awarded competitive specialist fellowships at three world-renowned units: Wrightington, Liverpool Upper Limb, and Trauma at the Royal Liverpool Hospital. These fellowships provided him with extensive exposure to complex upper limb conditions and a diverse range of treatment options, including both arthroscopic (keyhole) and open techniques. Seeking continuous growth, he has also pursued advanced training in Europe and North America, acquiring new skills along the way. Notably, he has been honored with the British Elbow and Shoulder Society Mayo Elbow Fellowship.
An ardent educator, Mr. Parmar has actively contributed to international and national courses, including his involvement in organising the Liverpool Upper Limb Unit courses. Currently serving as the Education Director for the Mersey region orthopaedic trainees, he plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of healthcare by supervising and mentoring junior doctors, participating in assessments, and teaching courses for various organisations and the British Elbow and Shoulder Society. With over a decade of experience, he was a regular instructor on the Advanced Trauma Life Support course, eventually progressing to training other instructors. Furthermore, Mr. Parmar has pursued research interests, presenting his work at national and international forums. He serves as a trustee of The Frostick Foundation, a charity dedicated to enhancing patient care in Liverpool.
Having volunteered as a consultant in Malawi for a year, Mr. Parmar has been recognised for his valuable experiences, being invited to share his insights on a national and international scale. This experience has fostered his commitment to supporting orthopaedics in developing countries. He has contributed chapters to textbooks specifically aimed at treating orthopaedic injuries in austere environments and serves as a founding member of the Implants for Malawi fundraising group. Additionally, he is a trustee of the registered charity North West Orthopaedic Trauma Alliance for Africa.
