Aida Kurtovic - Chairman

Aida Kurtovic has worked in the Global Fund partnership in numerous capacities, as a Board member, serving on Board Committees, and also on Bosnia's Country Coordinating Mechanism. She is Executive Director of Partnerships in Health, an organization in Sarajevo whose mission is assisting institutions to build capacity and achieve sustainable improvements in the quality of basic and essential health services, changing the lives of vulnerable populations.

Katie Hodson

Job Titles:
  • Head of Investigations at the Global Fund OIG
Katie Hodson is Head of Investigations at the Global Fund OIG. Katie is from England and has more than 20 years of experience in conducting and supervising investigations. Prior to working at The Global Fund, she served at Novartis International AG, Basel as the Global Head of Investigations, where she managed a team of 30 investigators working on international matters. She has extensive experience leading fraud investigations globally, including product theft, diversion and counterfeiting as well as numerous investigations involving employee misconduct. "I think people somehow misunderstand what whistle-blowing is. They see it as a negative thing. But when you have a concern or when you see someone doing something you know is wrong, then speaking out is a good thing."

Mark Edington

Mark Edington leads the Grant Management Division and oversees the Global Fund's investments in more than 100 countries. He manages 350 staff in six departments. Mark oversaw the Global Fund's transition to a new funding model from the previous rounds-based system. The funding model is designed to deliver improved results in the fight against the three diseases by high impact and cost effective interventions developed through an inclusive country dialogue and concept note process. In addition to improved grant-making systems, the funding model also delivers more predictable financing for countries. Mark joined the Global Fund from Save the Children International, where he was the International Program Director, after several years as Senior Vice President for International Programs at Save the Children US. One of the program streams he led included health and a dedicated HIV/AIDS department for Save the Children US. Prior to this, he held a variety of headquarters and field positions. Mark started his career as a Chartered Accountant and Management Consultant at PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PWC). He is a dual national of the United Kingdom and the United States of America.

Mouhamadou Diagne

Job Titles:
  • Inspector General
Fluent in French, English and Wolof, Mouhamadou is a dual citizen of Senegal and the United States. Before becoming Inspector General at the Global Fund, Mouhamadou was the Director of Strategy and Operations in the World Bank Group's Internal Audit and Director of Internal Audit at the Federal National Mortgage Association. He also worked for eight years in international public accounting firms, as an audit manager at Deloitte, and as a senior manager for Andersen and Ernst & Young. Mouhamadou is a Certified Internal Auditor and a Certified Investments and Derivatives Auditor. He holds a Master's Degree in Business Administration, a Master's of Science in Finance at the University of Maryland, a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting at Howard University and a Bachelor's in Communication. He has also taught university students in accounting, advanced auditing, and management. "When people steal medicines, when people engage in corruptive behavior, it's a child that's going to die of malaria potentially. It's an HIV patient who is not going to get his or her drugs. It's a pregnant mother who is not going to get the prenatal care that she's entitled to."

Norbert Hauser - Chairman

Job Titles:

Norbert Hauser has had a distinguished career in government and public service, including as Vice President of Germany's Supreme Audit Institution. He served as interim Inspector General at the Global Fund in 2012-13 and as a member of the High-Level Panel that created a blueprint for reform at the Global Fund in 2011. He began his career as a lawyer and prosecutor in Germany, and served for more than 20 years as a Member of the Council of the City of Bonn, and 15 years as District Mayor of the Borough of Bonn-Bad Godesberg. He also served as Chairman of the Panel of External Auditors of the United Nations and as External Auditor of the International Atomic Energy Agency, among other positions.
